IELTS VOCABULARY

Occupation – a person’s job.

Sentence – I suppose I was looking for an occupation which was going to be an adventure.

Architect – a person whose job is to design new buildings and make certain that they are built correctly.

Sentence – The architect drew the house in section.

Island – a piece of land completely surrounded by water.

Sentence – The growth of tourism brought prosperity to the island.

Vacancy – a space or place that is available to be used.

Sentence – The company uses the agency when a vacancy needs to be filled on an interim basis.

Landslides – a mass of rock and earth moving suddenly and quickly down a steep slope.

Sentence – The earthquake triggered submarine landslides that dislodged hundreds of cubic kilometers of sediment on the continental slope.

A sideeffect – An extra, usually bad, occurrence caused by taking a drug.
