IELTS Agree or Disagree Essay
In writing Part 2 i.e. essay there are two types of agree or disagree questions are given in one it is asked “ determine whether you agree or disagree” and the other is “to what extent do you agree or disagree” in which you have to give clear opinion.
So to summarize, for the question above you must have a clear position and you have three possible options:
1. Strongly agree. You think it’s better to establish new building in the cities rather than repairing old ones. You should discuss only this side.
2. Strongly disagree. You think it’s better to repair old buildings in the cities rather than establishing new ones. You should discuss only this side.
3. Discuss both sides. You think it’s better to establish new building in the cities or repair old ones. You should discuss both sides to present the fair picture of both situations and have a clear opinion towards one side either agree or disagree.
How to Structure an Agree-Disagree Essay?
You must remember few tips while structuring this kind of essays:
In this type of question you should completely agree or disagree with the statement.
If you have clear opinion than your essay will have clear arguments to make more coherent essay.
You should go with the side in which you are more confident and have more matter.
Here is how you should structure the essay:
Introduction
Write your introduction in two sentences in the first one paraphrase the statement and in the second on tell the examiner your opinion whether you are agree or disagree
Body paragraph 1 – Then comes the body paragraph in which you have to say the reason why do you agree or disagree. It involves the main idea i.e. the main reason for your opinion followed by the helping statements by which you can prove that your idea is right and relevant.
In the next sentence write an example relating to you supporting point to make your statement more effective.
Body paragraph 2 – In the 2nd body paragraph state the second reason for your opinion. Start with the main idea and supporting points and an example.
Conclusion
At Last comes the conclusion part in which you have to conclude the whole essay by giving your clear opinion to which side are you going with.
