HOW TO WRITE NUMBERs and DATEs in IELTS Listening
Hello! Today we are going to discuss about “How to write numbers and date in IELTS Listening”?
It is normally seen that the scores of the test takers usually reduce as they don’t write numbers, addresses and dates properly. These types of question usually come in section 1 and 2 and these sections are easy as compared to the third one and if you commit simple mistakes in these two sections then your score may reduce. In this article we will focus on “How to write numbers and date in IELTS listening”?
1. Telephone numbers:
In IELTS listening test some numbers specially the telephone numbers are pronounced differently like Zero is pronounced as ‘oh’. Other thing is the numbers are in group form and if both the figures are same like 77 it is called as double 7. To illustrate 2566970021 for this it will be said 25 double 6 97 double ‘oh’ 21.
2. Addresses (House numbers)
Usually test takers get confused with house number and street number as they don’t come to know which is the house number formal or latter. Usually house number comes before the street number.
3. Road Types:
In the addresses road name is also important to write correctly. In the test if the name of the road is bit awkward then it is spelled but if it is a common English word then you have to write it of your own in correct spellings. Another thing is the postal code which comes at the end of the address.
4. Problem with the name’s spelling:
Sometimes, candidates find difficulty in understanding the name of persons, streets or places as they are pronounced in a different way like Day is pronounced as ‘dei’ if a person understand the pronunciation then he can do it but if he don’t then he should develop some skills to tackle the problem.
5. Rules of writing Dates:
Many of the aspirants get confused in writing dates as the narrator says 22nd of October and in the instructions say “NOT TO WRITE MORE THAN TWO WORDS” in this case you can write 22nd October or October 22nd skip of from it. Both this patterns of writing dates is correct.
6. Common trap:
Beware of the examiner’s trap as the narrator says the write answer in the beginning and to make it complex he might say “ I think I have given you the wrong number” or something like this and will give you another number and he can again clarify himself by saying “ No the previous one right”. In this case you should act smart and write down both the numbers and pick the one which is correct.
7. Before answering guess the type of answer:
In IELTS listening test you should guess the type of answer weather it’s a mobile number or Date of birth or a Name and should prepare yourself accordingly. This will help you in answering accurately.
