Speaking is an imperative skill like other practical skills such as singing, dancing, and driving. The most prominent way to be perfect is speaking English is to actually keep on talking!

While preparing for yourself speech, it should be in your mind to follow these parameters: –

– Fluency & Coherence.

– Lexical resources.

– Grammatical range & Accuracy

– Pronunciation.

In the meantime, if you want to speak English like a native, you will have to put in some hard work.

Here are some tips & strategies to make the Speaking as a native speaker.

1. LISTEN MORE CAREFULLY: –

Listening to a range of accents and speakers will definitely lend a helping hand you to mimic their speech patterns and sound more fluent in your own speech.

You can watch videos on “YouTube”, “TV” and “Radio”. If you like to listen western songs, than this would be perfect way to gain more knowledge on this,

2. TRY TO ADD MORE IDIOMS IN YOUR SPEAKING

Adding some common idioms in speaking such as “Hard nut to crack” means difficult to do or “over the moon” means extremely happy, using these idioms can make your English speech more effective as well as make you sound more like a native speaker.

3. PRONUNCIATION

Here are some examples, how a native speaker can, specifically pronounce some words: –

– Get rid of a sound: – When “and” comes between two words, then “d” from article “and” often disappears from the pronunciation.

Example: – Fruits an(d) vegetables.

Similarly, a native speaker eliminates “er” while pronouncing words such as moth(er), broth(er).

Examples: – He is my broth(er).

4. INTONATION: –

When we hear a native speaker, we realize that he/she uses a lot of variation in the level of his voice. Sometimes, he/she uses high pitch, and sometimes it falls. This variations in pitch of the sound is known as “INTONATION”.

Example: – when expressing something with great zeal, voice, automatically gets high or rise.

Similarly, describing something with sorrow, voice automatically gets low.

To illustrate: –

* I am sorry (low pitch)

* Thank you (high pitch)

5. RICH VOCABULARY

Try to add uncommon words in your speech; this will make your speaking more attractive. But, you should practice these words again and again so that it looks natural when you speak. The pronunciation of words should be clear.

6. BE CONFIDENT & NATURAL

A native speaker speaks each and every sentence with confidence and natural flow. Build-up confidence in your speech, this will happen only, if you will practice and practice. Try to read and Listen content of speaking as much as you can. Get familiar with different accents. Your speech should be natural, do not try to cram anything because, in order to sound more like a native English speaker, what you say is as important as how you say it. More like how you say it. The more naturally your speech more will be the more attractions.

7. USE SOME SLANG

In an informal or friendly way, a native speaker would say “Do you wanna hang out?” instead of “Do you want to spend some time together?”

8. SPEAK, SPEAK AND SPEAK

Practice the native speakers’ accent and speak as much as you can. Practice in front of mirror or you can also record your voice. Speak in front of your friends, family members to be fluent in your speech. Practice your speech with any of your friend, who can correct you and tell you yours mistakes. Keep talking, if you have a friend or relative in abroad, try to speak with them. To finish it off, keep talking and talking in English, to sound like a native speaker.
