HOW TO GET 7 BANDS IN IELTS
A dream that every IELTS aspirant have is to get good band scores and they also have a question in their mind that how they can achieve their desired band scores. So today we will discuss some common but important factors that will teach you how to get 7+ bands in IELTS.
1. Before you look into the each part of the test, you need to understand about the scoring. Why is it important? IELTS is the difficult exam. And unless your English is perfect, there will be questions you can’t answer. I know that many students panic if they can’t find the correct answers but they shouldn’t. What score do you need to get? Most likely, it’s somewhere between 6 and 7. So how many questions do you need to answer correctly? That’s the official IELTS scoring table. As you can see, you only need to find the answers. To get 6 bands you need to correctly 23 questions out of 40 and 30 questions for 7.
2. You need to all read and listen to the English everyday so that might sound really obvious. But what is happening when you are reading and listening every day. It’s not only improving your reading skills and your listening skills. It also improves your vocabulary, grammar. Also it’s improving things that you wouldn’t even think about such as your idea generation for writing and speaking. Your idea development all of these things that are absolutely crucial to getting bands. You don’t need to read and listen for 4 or 5 hours a day. You should find a small amount of time in a single day but you are doing it consistently.
3. You must focus while learning. You need to focus on particular things like pronunciations, vocabulary or grammar and idea development. You need to think about these things and focusing on things one by one. That so it’s really really important to understand that and you actually do it. Also, you should keep it simple. When you fail in the test. The natural human reaction is “I need to make everything more complicated.” Need more complex grammar ideas, vocabulary. By adding these layers of complexity you are going to automatically get a high score. Does that work?
Absolutely not. It’s actually lowers your scores. Because you are going to make more mistakes by using grammar, vocabulary which you don’t really know how to use. And you are not focusing on the most important thing which is clearly communicating with the person reading your writing, listening to your speaking. You are making everything so complex that it’s really difficult to understand. So in order to move forward or to get high score you need simplify everything.
4. Be consistent with your preparation. You shouldn’t try and cram everything into the days and weeks before your exam. You need a long term view. Students who get good band scores they didn’t start preparation years before. But they are improving their English for years up until that point. IELTS is the English language test. So it is very good idea to become better at English before you start the IELTS test. Most of the people have good mind set so they become expert in English. So you should start preparation by using it day to day life.
5. Develop a strategy. With ample knowledge of each test and its parts, you can develop time-saving methods and techniques to answer each question more efficiently. In the listening test, for example, underlining keywords can help you focus on important concepts. To save time during the reading test, you may want to go straight to the questions first. There are methods that might work for you but not for others. So it is important to know the strategy that suits you.
