HOW TO EXTEND YOUR IELTS SPEAKING PART 1

Though your answers should not be too long as Part 1 includes questions of topics like family, work, hobbies etc. and you don’t usually speak for 2 minutes if someone asks you about these questions. Along with this you will be given an opportunity to answer long questions in Part 2 and 3.

According to general rule, if the candidates answer in a single clause like ‘I’m from India’ this answer would be wrong as it is very short. We always recommend candidates to answer Part 1 in/upto three sentences.

# Opposite Opinions Contrasting

Examiner can ask you a question and there you have to say about your view’s or another person’s opinion. Use word’s like ‘even so’ or ‘although’ to depict that you have used both the sides.

For example: Is your city is good for tourists attractions?

Short answer: Definitely, it has a really nice temple and a beach.

Long answer: Definitely, it has a really nice temple and a beach. Although beach is getting really busy nowadays, so it’s not pristine as it used to be.

# Frequency

Use words like ‘usually, never, always, and more often than not’ to expand your answers.

For example: What do you prefer to do on weekends?

Short answer: I watch series and play games on computer.

Long answer: Mostly I prefer to watch series and play computer games, but sometimes I go out with my friends to hang out.

How to use these?

Candidates who prefer to speak natural English and with their natural accent are considered to be best speakers as they speak with originality. They don’t even have a thought to extend or to add an example, they just reply spontaneously.

One can improve this only by practising ‘slow and fast.’ Start working in low pace by using old exam questions and think to extend answers. Make down notes too. Think in depth to use different structures you need to use and concentrate on having perfect answers.

By this initial start you will end up with your best results and you can then practice ‘fast’ with the latest questions and without any flaws and assistance, because you would have studied all the structures in detail, you will be able to use them naturally.

#Can candidates use more than one?

Without any doubt! They can freely use them. Combining 2 or 3 of structures in a single answer is very interesting and impressive task.

Making efforts to use different structures usually leads you to make mistakes. Keep target in your mind that speaking test checks your ability to speak fluently and communicating effectively. You are required to use various structures, but it doesn’t mean that you will use each and every complicated phrase and tense. Lay stress on just effective communication and on the use of accurate structures.

So, these are useful tips to extend your answers effectively in Part 1.
