And will it affect my speaking score?” I appreciate you giving your precious time to reading this post.
Speaking test is a common conversation between two persons and if one does not understand what the examiner is asking then-candidate can tell him/her to repeat so that he/she can rephrase it properly.
* Ask for repeating a question
If you don’t get the question properly you can ask the examiner to repeat the question once again but in a proper manner. (“Could you please repeat the question Sir/Ma’am?”). If you listen to the question but you don’t understand it then you can ask (“Could you please rephrase the question Sir/Ma’am?”).
Keep in your mind that you should ask the examiner to repeat only once by saying in a polite way. After the repetition, if you still confused don’t ask the examiner to repeat and start speaking whatever you have understood from the statement and don’t be stressed that you have not answered the question properly and focus on other questions.
* Never ask about the opinion of the examiner
One thing more you should never do is to ask the examiner about his opinion or view. Neither should you ask him for any example relating to the question.
Don’ts
– Don’t try to be frank with the examiner and ask about his any personal question or about the topic in order to get ideas. This can deduct your scores.
– Don’t make the examiner irritate by asking the meaning of the sentence but if you get stuck because of one word from the sentence but not from every question. You should ask the meaning of a word only once in the test.
– Don’t leave any question unanswered or ask him to change it because you don’t know enough about it. Answer it whatever you know as something is better than nothing.
– Don’t take the examiner for granted that he will help you every time. He can help if you ask him but only to the limit he is allowed to do.
– Don’t repeat the question in order to take more time to think.
Dos
– If you don’t understand the question ask him to repeat.
– Meaning of one word can be asked from the examiner.
– Attempt each and every question not answering will have bad impact on your score.
– If there is any difficult topic which is asked by the examiner and you are totally oblivious about it, it’s better to start your answer by using some phrases, like “Although, it’s difficult for me to answer the questions because I don’t have much knowledge about it yet I am trying”.
– Use some vocabulary and idioms.
If I ask the examiner to repeat the question, whether it has negative my IELTS speaking score or not?
Well this is the question everyone want to know and the answer is NO, asking to repeat the question does not affect your score. This test is to check your fluency, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. So it’s fine if you ask for repetition once or twice in the test but please don’t cross the limits.
