Detached house: A house that stands alone and is not joined to another building.

Example: They live in a large detached house in the countryside.

Semi-detached house: A house joined to another on one side only.

Example: Many families in the UK live in semi-detached houses.

Terraced house: A row of houses joined together side by side.

Example: Terraced houses are common in older parts of the city.

Apartment / Flat: A self-contained housing unit in a larger building.

Example: She rents a one-bedroom flat near the city center.

Studio apartment: A small apartment with one main room for living and sleeping.

Example: Studio apartments are ideal for single people or students.

Bungalow: A single-storey house (no upstairs).

Example: My grandparents live in a cozy bungalow by the beach.

Furnished: A home that already has furniture inside.

Example: The flat was fully furnished, so we didn’t need to buy anything.

Unfurnished: A home without furniture.

Example: They chose an unfurnished apartment so they could decorate it themselves.

Spacious: Having a lot of space inside.

Example: Their new home is very spacious with high ceilings and large windows.

Cozy (or Cosy – UK spelling): Small but comfortable and warm.

Example: The living room felt cozy with the fireplace and soft lighting.

Modern: New or up-to-date in style, design, or technology.

Example: They renovated their kitchen to have a more modern look.

Rustic: Simple, rough, and typical of the countryside.

Example: The cottage had a rustic charm with wooden beams and stone walls.

Renovate: To repair or improve a building to make it like new.

Example: They decided to renovate the old house instead of moving.

Landlord / Landlady: The person who owns a home or apartment and rents it out.

Example: The landlord agreed to fix the leaking roof.

Tenant: Someone who pays rent to live in someone else’s property.

Example: The tenant must give one month’s notice before leaving.

Mortgage: A loan from a bank to buy a house.

Example: They applied for a mortgage to buy their dream home.

Neighbourhood: The area where someone lives.

Example: It’s a quiet and friendly neighbourhood, perfect for families.

Homeowner: A person who owns the house they live in.

Example: Becoming a homeowner is a goal for many young adults.

Utility bills: Monthly payments for basic services like water, electricity, and gas.

Example: He forgot to pay the utility bills and the electricity was cut off.

Move house: To change from one home to another.

Example: They had to move house after getting a new job in another city.
