BEST TIP : GETTING HIGH SCORE IN IELTS LISTENING
While preparing for the IELTS exam, there are numerous things that revolve in the minds of the candidates and one of them is how to get high band score in listening. Before the exam, there are some things you need to do and things you need to pay attention to. If you follow these tips, you could get a significantly higher score!
TIPS FOR YOU:
1. Improve your overall listening skills: The purpose of the IELTS listening section is to test your listening skills. Using only practice tests to improve your score is not enough! They will help you familiarize yourself with the exam but will not improve your listening skills much. It is much more effective to do various listening exercises, listen to general listening material (radio reports, TV programs, documentaries, etc.) and only then do the IELTS Listening practice tests.
2. Master the vocabulary of your different sections : This means that you can familiarize yourself with some of the topics which you know mostly repeat in your tasks. For instance, section 3 is always about education. For example, a student and a supervisor discuss an assignment. Learn all the vocabulary of university studies. This way you will understand this section better.

3. Types of words : Before the audio starts just skim over the questions and select which type of word each space corresponds to. Is it a noun, a verb, an adverb or an adjective? Write “N” for nouns, “V” for verbs, etc. This will help you focus on the forms of certain words as you listen.
4. Get and idea of the situation: Try to understand the situation described in the audio. Before each section, you will have a short introduction: “You will now listen to a conversation between…” or “You will hear a lecture about…” This information is not written in the exam question paper, so be careful. Note: Who are the speakers, why are they speaking and where are they from. This will make the rest of the recordings easier to understand.

5. Don’t overlook : Remember that you will only hear the sound once. So if you missed some words and skipped questions, don’t worry! Leave them blank and focus on the real part. Review the questions at the end of the section, otherwise you will miss more questions and the trial and error recording. You need to read, write and listen at the same time.
6. Note the word indicator: Listen for word suggestions, for example, but finally, finally. It helps you anticipate what the speaker is going to say.
7. Don’t note down answers too fast: Many students fall into this trap: once they hear the necessary information, they mistake it for the correct answer. But sometimes this information is repeated or corrected later in this section.

8. Give a proof check : After each section, you have 30 seconds to check your answers. It is crucial to have a look on spelling, plurals and word forms. Don’t forget that only correctly written answers will get points.
9. Transfer the answer accurately : At the end of the listening test, you have 10 minutes to transfer your answers to the answer sheet. Students often get confused with numbers! As you write your answers, check that they fit into the correct numbered boxes. In other words, make sure the answer to question 7 is in the seventh position.
