4. Don’t get Distracted While Completing a Passage
Concentration is must while attempting IELTS reading test. If you lost concentration then you will lose bands so practice at home with a timer and make sure that you don’t exceed the time limits.
5. Follow the Scanning Process Carefully
Skimming and scanning is the main tool to solve reading question quickly and accurately.
6. Always Find Answers in Order
A very basic thing that most of the students are simply unaware about is that your answers follow the same order in the passage as the order of your questions. So, if you have found answer to 4th question in 3rd paragraph, you would not get answer to 5th question in 2nd paragraph, for sure. In almost all the questions, you will find regularity like this, which can be an advantage for you for finding your answers.
7. Understand Paraphrasing and Vocabulary
You will not get the words of answers and questions same, there are always paraphrased or synonyms used. So when you seek the answer keep your mind and eyes open for synonyms. In case you don’t understand the meaning of any question just do a guess work to understand the meaning by reading the sentence.
8. Read the Instruction carefully
Read the instructions carefully and stick to them as if you ignored them and crossed word limit then your score will be deducted. For example your instruction is ONE WORD ONLY but if you have mistakenly written two words as your answer, it would be marked wrong then.
9. Transfer Answers Carefully
Your answer should be the same as in the passage. Sometimes you have to change the answer grammatically (for example, changing form of verb). But do not manipulate the answer in any way or do not even write synonym in its place. When you write the exact answer, then only you get the right mark. Also, transfer the answers soon after you complete one section, rather than doing it at the end.
10. Attempt all the Questions
Since there is no negative marking for a wrong answer, it is highly recommended that you should not leave any answer as blank. If you don’t get any answer go with guess work.
