PTE Writing Section Overview
You’ll face two main tasks:
1. Summarize Written Text (short summary in one sentence)
2. Write Essay (200–300 words, academic-style essay)
1. Summarize Written Text (10 minutes per task)
Key Tips:
1. Write Only ONE Sentence:
-Use connectors like “which,” “therefore,” “however,” “and,” “as a result.”
Example:
The passage explains that regular exercise improves physical health, which also contributes to better mental well-being and productivity.
2. Focus on Main Idea:
Read the paragraph once for understanding, then underline key points.
Avoid examples, data, or minor details.
3. Keep Word Limit (5–75 words):
Ideal range: 30–50 words.
4. Grammar and Punctuation Matter:
Only one full stop at the end.
Use commas or conjunctions to connect ideas smoothly.
5. Structure Template:
The passage discusses (main idea) and explains that (key supporting point 1), (key point 2), and (final idea/conclusion).

2. Essay Writing (20 minutes per task)
Key Tips:
1. Stick to Word Limit (200–300 words):
240–260 words is the sweet spot.
2. Use Simple, Clear English:
Avoid very complex sentences — focus on correctness.
3. Use a Fixed Structure:
Template:
Introduction (40–50 words): Paraphrase the topic + state your opinion.
Body 1 (70–90 words): Give your first reason + example.
Body 2 (70–90 words): Give your second reason + example.
Conclusion (30–40 words): Restate your opinion briefly.
4. Use Linking Words:
Firstly, moreover, in addition, however, on the other hand, therefore, in conclusion.
5. Plan Before Writing (2–3 minutes):
Quickly outline your main points before typing.
6. Check Spelling and Grammar:
AI scoring penalizes spelling mistakes and grammar errors heavily.
Example Opening Lines:
-It is often argued that…
-There is no doubt that…
-While some people believe that…, others think that...
-In my opinion, both views have merits, but I firmly believe that...
Quick Do’s and Don’ts
Do:
-Type continuously (avoid long pauses).
-Keep ideas balanced and clear.
-End with a neat, short conclusion.
