CLASSROOM VOCABULARY

Classroom atmosphere – This refers to the overall mood or feeling in the classroom.

Example: A friendly classroom atmosphere helps students feel more comfortable and willing to participate.

Whiteboard – A smooth, white surface that teachers write on with markers.

Example: The teacher explained the grammar rules on the whiteboard so everyone could see clearly.

Textbook – A book used for studying a particular subject.

Example: Our English textbook has lots of useful exercises to practise reading and vocabulary.

Lecture – A talk or presentation given by a teacher, especially at universities or colleges.

Example: We had a lecture on climate change during science class today.

Desk – A piece of furniture where students sit and write.

Example: Each student has a desk with a small storage space underneath for books.

Blackboard – A dark board that teachers used to write on with chalk; common in traditional classrooms.

Example: The old classroom still had a blackboard instead of a smartboard.

Homework – Tasks that students are asked to complete outside class.

Example: We were given a lot of homework to finish before the weekend.

Class participation – Involvement of students in classroom activities like discussions or answering questions.

Example: Teachers often give marks for class participation to encourage more interaction.

Group work – An activity where students work in small teams to complete a task.

Example: We did some group work today to prepare a presentation about healthy eating.

School supplies – Items like pens, notebooks, rulers, and erasers used by students.

Example: I always keep my school supplies organized in my backpack.

Attendance – The act of being present at school or in a classroom.

Example: Regular attendance is important if you want to succeed in your studies.

Handout – A printed worksheet or page given by the teacher.

Example: The teacher gave us a handout that summarised all the key points from the lesson.

Syllabus – A summary of the topics that will be taught in a subject or course.

Example: The syllabus for this term includes poetry, short stories, and essay writing.

Assignment – A task or piece of work given to students.

Example: Our latest assignment is to write a report on environmental issues.

Smartboard – An interactive digital board used in modern classrooms.

Example: The smartboard made the lesson more engaging because we could all interact with it.
