Let’s look on the steps for High Band Score Answer

Step 1 – Relevancy of the Answer

You just need to fulfil the requirement of the answer. Answer with the point of view of the question. Don’t write  an essay that is close to a topic you have prepared before. Excess generalised essay means you are on the wrong way and are not specific enough and this will affect how your ideas are presented.

Do

Answer must be related to the question.

Related examples and ideas should be implemented only.

Extend your ideas for clear elaboration.

Don’t

Keep in view not to add any irrelevant point.

Excess-generalise

Write memorised answers

Present ‘recent’ research or statistics related to the topic.

Step 2 – Response of Every Questions

Reading questions is necessary but it’s essential to scruntize:

What is asked and how many parts a question has?

It’s vital to jot down each part in your answer in order to score higher.

Let’s take example of several questions:

Question typeHow many parts?Opinion required?
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?1-part questionYes, agree or disagree, or decide why you agree/disagree equally.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.3-part question – discuss both views as statedYes, present your opinion, it may be one of the views or a combination of both.

Step 3 – Organisation

The organisation of any essay is essential as it represents your idea representation. Ideas and organisation of an essay need to be precisely shown. Starting from your introduction till you conclude your each sentence must be written accurately.

If you are asked to present both views and your opinion, state your opinion at the beginning of the essay and then move on to present both views. You can then come back to your own opinion and then conclude the essay. This is a logical way to present these ideas.

Do

Use a range of linking words and phrases, but don’t overuse them

Use adverbial phrases, rather than single basic linkers

Use referencing and substitution to avoid repetition (this/them/the issue/the problem)

Use punctuation to make your writing coherent

Make sure your ideas are sequenced correctly

Make sure your ideas are logical and easy to follow

Use a separate paragraph for the introduction and the conclusion

Use one paragraph for each idea or topic area.

Step 4 – Use of Vocabulary

You can see in various 8+ bands sample answers of writing that they include uncommon vocabulary in it. When anyone polish their linguistic skills they use both common and uncommon words. Common terms are words and phrases we use every day to refer to personal experience and daily habits. Uncommon terms are used when we discuss specific topics or when we use idiomatic language (phrasal verbs).

You must learn those words which are old-fashioned are used uncommonly. Keep in view that if you want to use synonyms you need to learn it’s exact meanings as they replicate in other senses to. Your idea can be altered if you use irrelevant lexical item. For example, adolescent/teenager have close meaning and can be used interchangeably, however, toddler/baby have quite different meanings.

If you use phrasal verbs, make sure that you are using the correct preposition as it can change the meaning:

throw out/away = discard

throw up = vomit/get sick

Idioms (cultural language) should only be used if you understand them completely and if they fit the topic you are discussing.

Step 5 – Adding Complexity

The main problem here seems to be the word ‘complex’. Complex, in this situation, does not mean complicated, long or impressive. This is a common misconception and leads to students writing very long and grammatically incorrect sentences that are very difficult to understand.

Complex’ sentences are not very complex; they are just two or more simple sentences. Putting them together makes the essay more coherent and cohesive.

Let’s look at the first example again. In the sentence above, there are four simple ideas that we can put into simple sentences:

1. Global warming is a common topic these days.

2. Global warming causes environmental problems.

3. There are tough challenges associated with global warming.

4. Global warming has very serious consequences.

So, these you need to keep in view in order to fulfill your target.
