SAMPLE ANSWER
School homework has always been a debatable subject but the reasons for giving student homework to do are obvious and generally is part of the school timetable.
It is very important to have homework because it strengthens what has been taught in the classroom and encourages the student to work alone in another environment especially if the student is studying for a test. It also gives the teacher a clear idea of what the student knows and how much further help in needed. Revising school lessons can also be done in an organised group which can be arranged after school hours.
Although this adds extra hours to the school day, some students prefer this because they can ask question and be given advice. In some countries there are special evening schools exactly for the purpose. No, I am not in agreement with abolishing school homework. Some students need this extra work schedule because everyone goes at their own pace, meaning that some are slower than others. Very often students have learning programs and the classroom in not always the best place for them to be. They prefer to work alone or in a group in which others are having the same problems. Consequently, this makes them feel happier about their schoolwork.
In my experience, attending an evening school for the purpose, in a completely different atmosphere, has helped to achieve better skills than can be achieved at school. Homework is a good part of the school programme.
