WRITING TASK 2 (AC+GT)
In the 21st century experience is being prized by employers more than degrees. A person without a degree and 5 years’ experience is more likely to get a job over someone with two master degrees and no experience, is it justifiable, since university education is very expensive.
SAMPLE ANSWER
Practical experience is what employers prefer for their employees to educational qualification. This raise concern since university education is an expensive affair. The following lines look into the issue to evaluate whether this trend is warranted.
The prime reason for this phenomenon is that many universities is less successful in turning out employable graduates and post graduates. For example, a recent study has revealed same startling facts that only a meagre percentage engineer from a developing nation are good in working in an international workplace. Profit is the primary motive of a business, and employers are always on the lookout for workers with experience, else they may have to train them for years, at high cost.
Another major reason is that people learn when they do. As some people are very good at it, over a period they achieve more desirable skills than fresh degree holders do. Naturally, employers find such people ideally suitable for job they want to be done with maximum skills and efficiency.
Yet another factor is that many people go to universities and study subjects in which they have no genuine interest. In spite of passing examinations and getting degrees, they do not acquire skills they must have possessed. That is why some postgraduates of language and literature are not as good as possible blessed with real linguistics acumen (literary skills)but having no degree.
The outcome of discussion is that employers are justified in preferring hands with experience for their business to be successful. Hence, tertiary students may pay attention to get skills necessary for the work place and universities should adapt themselves suitably.
