WRITING TASK 2 (AC+GT):-

Water is a natural resource that should always be free. Government should ban the sale of bottled water.

To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant example from your own knowledge or experience.

SAMPLE ANSWER:-

In previous days people drank fresh water and did not have to pay for it. However, now we are living in modern era where many changes have taken place. These days many companies sell water. Some people think government should ban the sale while others oppose. I agree with the latter view and would discuss both the sides and give my opinion in the following paragraphs.

There are certain reasons to support my notion. To begin with, water is contaminated today because of environmental pollution. One cannot drink water directly from tap. Bottled water is purified and undergoes various filtering stages and even minerals are added to it. Therefore, this type of water should not be banned. Moreover, it is uniform everywhere. So, if someone goes to another place, he would not face any digestion problem due to change in water.

Secondly, when people pay to purchase water, they would understand the worth as well. No doubt water is available in abundance, but water which is fit for drinking is limited. Even there is shortage of water everywhere. Developed country like USA too is facing acute shortage of water. This is because people have been misusing water by using it in unnecessary areas. So, if they would buy it then they would use water in only those regions which need it.

On the other hand, a section of society goes against the aforesaid justification. In their opinion, bottled water is of plastic which is a non-biodegradable substance and is harmful for environment. They believe that on one hand, we are trying to reduce plastic and on the other, we are encouraging plastic bottles. This somewhere poses a great threat to the environment and so should be prohibited.

To conclude, I would like to state that both the notions given above are valid and effective. Nonetheless, if I consider both of them logically, then I have a firm belief that first view is more effective and powerful and so government should not ban bottled water. However, they should instruct the companies to use plastic of superior quality.
