The restoration of an old building in major cities in the world cost numerous governments’ expenditures. This money should be used in new housing and road development. Do you agree or disagree?

In many major cities, governments spend a significant amount of money restoring old buildings. Some people believe that this money should be used to build new houses and improve road systems instead. I partly agree with this view because both preservation and modernization are essential for urban development.
On the one hand, constructing new housing and developing roads can directly improve people’s living standards. In many big cities, population growth has caused a shortage of affordable housing, forcing many residents to live in overcrowded areas. Investing in new housing projects would reduce this pressure. Similarly, better road infrastructure can ease traffic congestion and make transportation more efficient, which boosts economic activity and reduces pollution.
On the other hand, old buildings represent a nation’s cultural and historical heritage. Restoring them not only preserves architectural beauty but also promotes tourism, which can generate significant revenue for the country. For example, historical sites such as the Colosseum in Rome or the Taj Mahal in India attract millions of visitors every year. Neglecting such buildings would mean losing a part of national identity and potential economic benefits.
In conclusion, while governments should allocate sufficient funds for modern housing and transport development, they should not ignore the restoration of old buildings. A balanced approach that preserves cultural heritage while meeting modern needs will ensure sustainable progress in cities around the world.
