IELTS WRITING TASK 2

IELTS WRITING TASK 2
You don’t need a teacher to learn English. All you need are a dictionary and a grammar book. Do you agree with this? If not give reasons. If you agree give reasons.
SAMPLE ANSWER
I disagree with the statement that a teacher is unnecessary for learning English and that only a dictionary and grammar book are enough. While these resources can certainly help improve vocabulary and grammar knowledge, they cannot replace the guidance and interaction provided by a teacher.
A teacher plays a crucial role in identifying a learner’s weaknesses and helping them improve systematically. For example, many learners struggle with pronunciation, sentence structure, and speaking confidence — areas that require real-time feedback, which a book or dictionary cannot provide. Teachers also create a supportive learning environment through activities like discussions, role-plays, and group exercises that make learning more engaging and practical.
Moreover, learning a language is not only about understanding grammar rules; it’s also about communication and cultural context. Teachers can explain idioms, tone, and expressions used in real-life situations, which cannot be learned effectively from books alone.
However, dictionaries and grammar books are still valuable tools for self-study. They help learners review lessons, expand vocabulary, and clarify doubts outside the classroom. The best approach is to combine both — using books for practice and a teacher for guidance and correction.
In conclusion, while self-study resources are useful, they cannot fully replace the role of a teacher in language learning. A good teacher provides structure, motivation, and feedback, all of which are essential for mastering English effectively.
