IELTS WRITING TASK 2

IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Reading fiction (such as novels and short stories) is more enjoyable than watching movies. Use specific reasons and examples to explain your position.
SAMPLE ANSWER
I completely agree that reading fiction is more enjoyable than watching movies. Although both are popular forms of entertainment, reading offers a deeper and more personal experience that movies often fail to provide.
Firstly, reading fiction allows readers to use their imagination freely. When we read a novel or short story, we create our own mental images of the characters, settings, and emotions. For example, while reading Harry Potter, each reader visualizes Hogwarts differently, adding a personal touch to the story. In contrast, movies present fixed visuals, leaving little room for imagination. Secondly, reading gives us a better understanding of characters’ inner thoughts and emotions. A book can describe what a character feels or thinks in detail, while movies usually focus on visual expression and dialogue. This makes reading a richer emotional experience.
Moreover, reading improves language and creativity. It exposes readers to new vocabulary and writing styles, which enhances communication skills. On the other hand, watching movies is more passive and rarely stimulates intellectual growth.Of course, movies can be entertaining and visually appealing, especially when we want quick relaxation. However, the satisfaction gained from finishing a good novel lasts much longer because it involves personal interpretation and emotional connection.
In conclusion, reading fiction is more enjoyable and rewarding than watching movies because it stimulates imagination, deepens emotional understanding, and enhances creativity. Therefore, I strongly believe that books offer a more meaningful and lasting form of enjoyment.
