IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Some people like to try new things, for example, places to visit and types of food. Other people prefer to keep doing things they are familiar with.
Discuss both these attitudes and give your own opinion.
SAMPLE ANSWER
Some people enjoy trying new experiences, such as visiting unfamiliar places or experimenting with different cuisines. Others prefer routines and familiar environments. Both attitudes have their advantages depending on individual personality and lifestyle.
On one hand, those who seek new experiences often do so for personal growth, excitement, and learning. Trying different foods or exploring new destinations can broaden one’s perspective and enhance cultural understanding. This approach helps individuals become more adaptable and open-minded. For instance, travelling to a foreign country might teach someone about diverse customs, languages, and worldviews that they wouldn’t encounter otherwise.
On the other hand, many people find comfort and efficiency in doing familiar things. Sticking to known routines can reduce stress, especially in busy lives where predictability brings stability. Eating familiar food or vacationing in a known place can be more relaxing and less risky. This preference is also practical for those who may have health, financial, or time constraints.
In my opinion, while there is value in the comfort of familiarity, trying new things is essential for personal development. It pushes people out of their comfort zones, fosters creativity, and often leads to memorable experiences. Even small changes, like tasting a new dish or visiting a nearby town, can enrich life.
In conclusion, both approaches have their merits. A balanced lifestyle that includes routine for stability and occasional novelty for growth may offer the most fulfilling experience.
