IELTS Writing Task 2

Technology has become an integral part of modern society, and its relationship with crime is a subject of debate. While some argue that it helps reduce crime, others believe it enables new forms of criminal behaviour.

On one hand, advanced technology such as CCTV cameras, biometric identification, and cybersecurity systems plays a significant role in preventing and solving crimes. For instance, surveillance footage has helped police identify suspects and gather evidence quickly. Moreover, digital tracking and forensic tools have improved investigation methods, making it harder for criminals to escape justice.

On the other hand, the rise of the internet has led to new types of crime. Cybercrimes like identity theft, online scams, and hacking have become increasingly common. Criminals exploit loopholes in digital systems, often operating anonymously and across borders, which complicates law enforcement efforts.

In my opinion, technology can both reduce and promote crime, depending on how it is used. While it empowers law enforcement, it also gives criminals more sophisticated tools. Therefore, technological advancements should be accompanied by strong laws, public awareness, and constant monitoring.

In conclusion, technology is a double-edged sword in the context of crime. Its impact depends largely on regulation, ethical use, and how quickly authorities can adapt to new threats.
