Instead of being held in a different city each time, the Olympic Games should be held at a permanent site. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The Olympic Games are traditionally hosted by a different city every four years, but some argue they should be held at a permanent site instead. While this idea has both merits and drawbacks, I partly agree with it and believe a balanced approach may be more practical.
Hosting the Olympics in a different location each time promotes international unity and cultural exchange. It allows different countries to showcase their heritage, infrastructure, and hospitality to a global audience. Moreover, the anticipation of hosting often motivates cities to invest in urban development, transportation, and sports facilities, which can benefit citizens long after the games conclude.
However, the current model has significant downsides. The financial burden on host cities is enormous, often leading to debt and underused infrastructure. Additionally, concerns over environmental damage, displacement of residents, and excessive spending have become more frequent. A permanent Olympic site would eliminate these recurring costs and promote sustainability. Countries could share responsibility for its maintenance, making the games less politicized and more focused on sport.
In my opinion, a rotational system between a few pre-approved, well-equipped cities may offer a solution. This would preserve global participation while reducing costs and environmental impact.
In conclusion, although rotating host cities brings cultural richness and international engagement, the high financial and environmental costs cannot be ignored. A hybrid model — either a permanent site or a small set of rotating venues — could ensure the Olympics remain both inspiring and sustainable.
