IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
SAMPLE ANSWER
Life often presents us with challenging circumstances, such as an unfulfilling job or financial struggles. While some people believe it is wiser to accept such situations, others argue that it is better to strive for improvement. Both views have their merits, but I personally believe that people should try to change their circumstances whenever possible.
On one hand, accepting a difficult situation can sometimes be the most practical choice. For instance, individuals with family responsibilities or limited opportunities might have no option but to stay in an unsatisfactory job. Accepting the situation can reduce stress, prevent frustration, and help them focus on stability. Moreover, trying to change things in certain cases might lead to greater disappointment if expectations are not met.
On the other hand, many believe that making an effort to improve one’s condition leads to progress and personal growth. History and daily life are full of examples where people, despite hardship, worked hard to create better futures. For example, someone unhappy with their job may pursue part-time education or learn new skills to find better employment. Such proactive behavior not only boosts self-confidence but also opens doors to greater opportunities.
In my opinion, while accepting reality can be a temporary coping mechanism, actively working towards a better situation is more rewarding in the long run. Life is dynamic, and efforts to grow or change are often what lead to true satisfaction and success.
