IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Some people believe that governments should pay full course fees for students who want to study in universities. Do you agree or disagree?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Education plays a crucial role in shaping a nation’s future, and there is an ongoing debate about whether university fees should be fully covered by the government. I strongly agree with this idea, as it promotes equality and national development.
Firstly, covering tuition fees can ensure equal access to education regardless of a student’s financial background. In many countries, talented students are unable to pursue higher education simply because they cannot afford it. When the government funds university fees, it helps create a more inclusive society and gives everyone a fair chance to succeed.
Secondly, free higher education benefits the country in the long run. Educated citizens are more likely to contribute positively to the economy, be innovative, and participate actively in democratic processes. Governments can recover the cost through higher tax contributions from well-educated and higher-earning individuals in the future.
However, some argue that this would place a heavy financial burden on the government. While this is a valid concern, strategic investment in education can actually reduce unemployment and poverty in the long term, thus saving public funds spent on welfare programs.
In conclusion, government-funded university education can reduce inequality, support economic growth, and create a more skilled workforce. Therefore, I believe it is a worthwhile and necessary investment for any country.
