IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Dietary experts agree that many people have unhealthy diets. What do you think are the causes of this? What solutions can you suggest?
SAMPLE ANSWER
It is widely acknowledged by dietary experts that a significant number of people maintain unhealthy eating habits. This issue has become increasingly common in modern society and stems from several root causes. However, there are also practical solutions that could help address this growing concern.
One primary cause of poor diets is the widespread availability and affordability of processed and fast foods. These meals are often high in sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats, yet are cheap and convenient, making them appealing to busy individuals. Furthermore, aggressive marketing strategies by food companies often target children and young adults, encouraging them to consume junk food. Another contributing factor is the lack of nutritional education. Many people are unaware of what constitutes a balanced diet and the long-term risks associated with unhealthy eating, such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.
To tackle this problem, several measures can be implemented. Governments can introduce stricter regulations on advertising unhealthy food, especially those aimed at young audiences. Additionally, healthier food options should be made more accessible and affordable to the public through subsidies and public health initiatives. Educational institutions can also play a key role by incorporating nutrition and cooking classes into their curricula, helping students make informed choices from a young age.
In conclusion, the rise of unhealthy diets can be attributed to easy access to junk food and a lack of awareness. Nevertheless, through better regulation, education, and promoting healthier options, society can work towards improving public health.
