IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Some people believe that the lives of people from their children’s generation will be better than their own. Others believe that their lives will be worse. Discuss both viewpoints and give your own opinion.
SAMPLE ANSWER
There is ongoing debate about whether future generations will experience better lives than those of their parents. While some are optimistic about progress in technology and healthcare, others worry that global challenges may diminish the quality of life. This essay will examine both perspectives before offering a personal viewpoint.
On one hand, many believe that advances in science, medicine, and communication will lead to better lives for the next generation. Technological innovation has already improved healthcare outcomes, made education more accessible, and connected people across the globe. As artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and automation evolve, future societies may enjoy greater convenience, longer life expectancy, and increased productivity. For example, online learning platforms now provide educational opportunities to millions who were once excluded.
On the other hand, others argue that rising environmental issues, job insecurity, and mental health problems might make the future bleaker. Climate change, resource depletion, and pollution are threatening the planet, possibly limiting future generations’ quality of life. Moreover, the fast-paced, digitally driven world may lead to increased stress, social isolation, and inequality. Many young people today already struggle with housing affordability and unstable employment.
In my opinion, while future generations will benefit from certain technological and medical advancements, the growing social and environmental issues cannot be overlooked. Unless strong measures are taken to address these challenges, life may not be better for our children.
In conclusion, whether life improves or worsens for future generations depends largely on how current issues are managed today.
