SAMPLE ANSWER
In recent decades, the rapid advancement of modern technology has undoubtedly transformed the way people live and work. While this has brought significant convenience, there is growing concern that an over-reliance on technology is causing individuals to lose touch with basic skills. In my view, this concern is valid to a certain extent, particularly in areas where technology has completely replaced traditional methods.
One clear example is navigation. With the widespread use of GPS and smartphone apps, many people no longer feel the need to learn how to read physical maps or understand directions without assistance. As a result, their natural sense of direction and problem-solving skills in unfamiliar environments may diminish. Similarly, in everyday mathematics, calculators and apps are often used for even the simplest calculations, which may lead to a decline in mental arithmetic skills.
Moreover, the rise of voice assistants and predictive text features has reduced the necessity for accurate spelling and grammar. Younger generations, in particular, may struggle with writing coherent sentences or structuring essays without digital aids. These tools, while useful, can make individuals passive users of language rather than active learners.
However, it is important to recognize that technology can also enhance learning when used appropriately. Educational platforms, coding apps, and online tutorials can foster new skills and make education more accessible. The issue arises when technology replaces effort rather than supporting it.
In conclusion, while modern technology offers many benefits, excessive dependence on it can lead to the erosion of basic skills. It is essential to strike a balance between using technology for efficiency and maintaining core competencies that are vital in daily life.
