In the future, people may no longer be able to pay for things in shops using cash. All payments may have to be made by card or using a phone. Do you think this will happen one day? Why do you think some people might not be happy to give up using cash?

SAMPLE ANSWER

It is highly likely that cash will eventually become obsolete, with digital payments via cards or mobile phones becoming the standard method of transaction. Technological advancement and the global shift towards more efficient, secure, and contactless payment systems are driving this transformation.

There are several reasons why this change seems inevitable. First, digital payments are more convenient and quicker, eliminating the need to carry physical money or wait for change. Second, electronic transactions are easier to track, which benefits both businesses and consumers in terms of budgeting and fraud prevention. Moreover, governments also support the cashless trend as it helps reduce tax evasion and improve financial transparency.

Despite these advantages, some people may be reluctant to give up cash. Elderly individuals or those who are not tech-savvy might find digital systems confusing or inaccessible. Furthermore, there are concerns about privacy and data security, as digital payments often require sharing personal information. Additionally, in rural or underdeveloped areas, the necessary infrastructure for cashless payments may be lacking, making it difficult for everyone to participate in a fully digital economy.

In conclusion, while a cashless society appears to be a likely future, it is essential to consider the needs and concerns of those who may be left behind in this transition. Ensuring inclusivity and accessibility will be key to making such a shift successful.
