IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Many people think that too much money is wasted when investing in technical equipment for space exploration. These people believe that this money would be beneficial if invested elsewhere.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Space exploration is expensive but many countries still want to engage in it. After all, it is our nature to be curios. Unfortunately, the world has limited finances for its many problems needing immediate solutions. With that in mind, some people believe that the money spent on space exploration should instead be used for finding solutions to world problems. Contrarily, I believe that space exploration will be very useful in the long run. Through exploring the universe, we can discover new perspective and solutions to our problems.
Historically speaking, exploration has led to progress. Countries like America have been discovered because of sea voyages. In short, explorations lead to opportunities. We should think of spaceflight programmes similarly because exploring the outer space can lead to endless possibilities. For instance, it was once hypothesized that other life forms exist in other planets. One day enabling man to planet and harvest food supply to eliminate hunger on earth.
Another point to consider is that our planet is already suffering because our resources are becoming scarce as our population is exponentially. If we think about long term goals, we have to plan for the world’s future as early as now. Doing so includes considering potential resources on outer space. To elaborate, if we can find other power resources outside of the earth, we might be able to help our own planet survive. Furthermore. It may eliminate problems on petroleum and possibly even wars.
Assigning space exploration money to poor countries does exactly solve their problems. Consequently, we need fresh ideas to improve the world’s poverty situation. Exploring outer space could bring the solutions we need. For instance, we might consider developing homes or factories in outer space. It might seem impossible now, but it is still worth considering.
In summary. The global community must perform a balancing act. We must solve the world’s current problems while being open to exploring outer space possibilities.
