Some people believe that tourists do not learn anything during their holiday, while opponents believe they learn a lot of things. Discuss both views and opine.
SAMPLE ANSWER
The world has become smaller and we can now travel to even the remotest parts of the world. Some individuals opine that travellers don’t learn anything new when they visit a new place. Others are of the view that travelling teaches myriad of things to the tourists. I intend to delve into both the perspectives in this essay. I, however, side with the latter view.
Some people reckon that travelling is not a learning experience. The main reason for that most people travel in groups with their family or friends. They do not mingle with the local people and do not try the local foods. Tourists usually look for their own cuisine or international food brands like McDonalds or KFC. Another reason is that people go on holidays to relax, rejuvenate and take a break from their routines. So, people mostly do not want to learn anything new when they travel to a new place. For instance, many tourists today simply check into resorts and don’t move out of the resort for the entire duration of their stay.
On the other hand, it cannot be denied that travelling brings a lot of learning with it. We not only get to experience a new way of life, but also learn about different cultures, history, food and languages. Furthermore, it makes us more responsible, independent and confident. We learn to plan and organize better. We come across different situations that help improve our decision-making and resource planning skills. Moreover, when we travel to a new place, we meet new people, make new friends and it helps build our social network. It also gives us an opportunity to get a different perspective on things, which broadens our horizons.
I believe that travelling is the best way to learn about a new culture, language, or history among many other things. I think that it is always an enriching experience and we become more aware about the world around us when we visit new places. Even if people do not go out of the resorts, it will still be a learning experience in terms of the social interaction with the staff of the resort or with other guests at the resort.
To conclude, I will reiterate that tourism offers tremendous opportunities for the travellers to discover, learn and grow. It will be wrong to say that tourists do not learn anything at all when they travel.
