IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Different types of environmental pollution seem to be affecting an increasing number of people in the world. What do you think are the causes of this problem and what solutions would you suggest?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Environmental pollution has become a pressing issue globally, with its harmful effects increasingly affecting human health and biodiversity. The main causes of this problem can be traced back to rapid industrialization, urbanization, and the overuse of natural resources.
One of the primary contributors to pollution is industrial growth, particularly in developing countries. Factories release harmful gases and waste into the air, water, and soil. As more people move to cities in search of work, the demand for energy, transportation, and housing increases, leading to higher emissions from vehicles, power plants, and construction sites. Additionally, the excessive use of plastic and other non-biodegradable materials has contributed to the accumulation of waste in landfills and oceans.
To combat these issues, several solutions must be implemented. First, governments should enforce stricter regulations on industries to limit their emissions and waste. This could include setting up more sustainable production methods, such as renewable energy sources, and promoting the use of eco-friendly materials. Second, raising public awareness about the importance of reducing waste and adopting sustainable practices, like recycling and using reusable products, can help mitigate the problem. Lastly, investments in green technologies, such as electric vehicles and waste treatment systems, would significantly reduce pollution.
In conclusion, while environmental pollution is caused by various factors linked to human activities, a combination of stricter regulations, technological innovation, and public awareness can help alleviate this growing concern and lead to a cleaner, healthier planet.
