IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Some people believe that travelling alone really benefits in learning a country’s culture and experience, while others believe it is better to travel with someone you know. Discuss both these views and share your opinion.
SAMPLE ANSWER
Nowadays there is a significant increase in global tourism. While some people argue that solo travel is good for learning the host country’s culture and enriching your experience, many others believe that travelling with partners is better. This essay intends to discuss both perspectives. I, however, side with the latter view.
On the one hand, some people believe that travelling alone can enable a person to learn different customs and gain more experience. This is because you are alone in an alien environment and all your focus is on absorbing your surroundings and noticing the people around you. For instance, you will discover how the local residents talk, dress and even walk.
If you need any help, you will have to ask the natives of that place and by interacting with them you will be able to understand their nature also. If you are with your friends or family, you will be engrossed among them and may miss a lot of these observations. Thus, it is clear that why some people hold this point of view.
On the other hand, many argue that it is better to travel with friends as this can have many benefits. First of all, it would substantially lower the cost of travelling. To illustrate, you will share the cost of the hotel and food and at times you may get discounts for certain group activities. Thus, you can enjoy the journey with your friends and save money.
Furthermore, when you are with someone you know, you feel secure. After all, you are in unknown surroundings and there is always security in numbers. You can also learn the country’s culture when you are with friends. You can discuss your observations with those of your fellow travelers and you may get to see things from a different perspective. After analyzing these points of view, it is easy to see why many support this claim.
In conclusion, travelling alone is good to understand the local culture and experience, but definitely travelling with friends or family has an edge over travelling alone as you lower your cost of travelling, feel secure and share your experiences.
