Sample Answer:-

These graphs give information about the growth of the global population from 1400 to 2000 and its distribution over different continents at the beginning of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Overall, the world population rose sharply from less than 500 million in the 1400s to 6 billion in 2000, a growth of 12 times over 600 years. The increase was more dramatic after 1800, and only in the 1700s was there an obvious decline (1.2 billion to 0.9 billion).

The pie charts show that in both 1900 and 2000, Asia accounted for the largest share (more than half) of the world population, followed by Europe. But both continents saw a decline in their percentage of the world population, the former from 60% to 54% and the latter from 24% to 14%. On the other hand, the percentage of the world population in Africa and Latin America grew considerably from 4.5% to 13% and from 3% to 8% respectively. However, North America showed no change, remaining constant at 5% of the world population. The percentage in other areas rose from 3.5% to 6%.

In conclusion, most of the population growth occurred in developing countries in Africa and Latin America.

GENERAL WRITING TASK 1:-

Write a letter to invite a famous person to give a speech at a meeting in your youth club. In your letter, you should:

  • introduce your club
  • explain why you want to invite him /her
  • tell him/her about the arrangement for the meeting

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Model Answer:-

Dear Mr. Smith,

On behalf of Sunshine Youth Club, I am writing to invite you to make a speech at Our annual charity donation meeting.

Sunshine Youth Club is an organisation established with the aim to guide and educate the youngsters so that they can lead a healthy lifestyle. Indeed, instead of offering entertainment alone, our club holds, every now and then, a variety of social activities, including raising money for the disabled and the poor.

Having an international reputation and a positive impression among the young, you are the ideal person to encourage young people to donate what they can afford to charity. In fact, we get the information from the press that you have donated millions of dollars to help the impoverished people in Africa and Southern Asia.

The meeting will be held next Monday afternoon on July 4, and we will make arrangements to have you picked up at your residence around noon. Your speech is scheduled at 1:30 p.m.. for about half an hour. After your speech, we will start the donation process.

We would be more than excited and grateful if you could take your time off to deliver a speech to our youth club.

Yours sincerely,

Tom lmdrews

WRITING TASK 2 (AC+GT):-

International tourism has become a huge industry in the world. Are the problems that international travellers cause greater than the advantages they bring?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience

Model Answer

With the general decrease in travelling costs, international travel is becoming more prevalent. For a variety of reasons and with greater frequency, people are travelling to other countries. International visitors bring their own range of behaviours and customs to the countries they visit. I believe the advantages international travellers bring to the countries they choose to visit outweigh the negatives.

Unfortunately, all countries have within them people who exhibit undesirable behaviour. The vociferous minority seem to leave an impression in the minds of people in host countries. Whether it be leaving the hotel room in a complete mess, or loudly arguing about a matter with a local person, international visitors are sometimes a poor advertisement for their countries. This is certainly the negative side of international visitors.

However, the far greater impression international visitors leave is a good one. Typically, international visitors bring with them money which they inject into the local economy they are visiting, which is excellent for business. They can also educate the local people about what life is like in another part of the world. These international travellers are like ‘ambassadors’ for their countries and can cause others to want to visit their countries this brings with it obvious economic benefits as well. In addition, international visitors can help others to see things from a different perspective and, often, improve on the way things are done.

Problems can arise from international visitors; however, the benefits they bring to the countries they visit are greater. International visitors around the world will continue to impact the countries to which they travel, and it is up to the individual to make sure the example they set is a good one.

PART – 1 Intro Part

What is your full name?
My name is Palwinder Wahra.

Can I see your ID?
Sure, Here it is.

Where is your hometown?
My hometown’s in Kerala.

Can you swim?
Yes I can. I learnt at school when I was about 7 years old. Swimming lessons were compulsory at our school, like most schools I think.

Are there many places to swim near you?
Yes, there are a few public swimming pools. There is the main indoor one at a big sports complex in the center of town. There are also a couple of outdoor ones, but you can only use them in summer as it is too cold in winter. One is a big one in a park, the other is a much smaller one.

Do you think everyone should learn to swim?
Of course, I think it’s very important. Firstly, you spend much of your life on holiday by water, for example, when you go to the beach on holiday, so you won’t be able to enjoy yourself with your friends if you can’t swim. Also, for safety reasons it’s very important. You often hear about sad accidents involving young children so it’s very important.

Band 8.0 Model Answer

Well, I have to admit that It has been so difficult for me to figure out simple ways to save money and use my savings effective to pursue my financial goals before. But it’s so lucky for me when I complained about it to my friend, she suggested me using Money Lover, a useful mobile application to most useful one. Thanks to that, I am better at money management.

Let me tell you about it in more detail. The symbol of the app is a very cute piggy bank which impresses me a lot at the first sight. There are many expenses for clothes, food, cosmetics divided so that at the end of the month, I can know exactly what cost me a bomb, what are within my budget to tighten the belt next month.

It is not an exaggeration to say that this way of saving money changes my life for the better. I have used this app for 3 months and up to now, I have a considerable savings in my banking account. To my surprise, my friends consider me as a shining model for them to follow when it comes to talking about money saving. This makes me so proud of myself. In addition, my mom always got shirty with me for my wasting money but at the moment, she hardly loses her temper anymore and we seem to have better relationship than in the past.

If anyone asks which the most effective way to save money is, “Money Lover” is definitely the first thing that comes to my mind. Trust me, it is really helpful.

PART – 3 Discussion

What do you think about money?
Money can do many things, both good and bad. It allows us to have freedom and a wide variety of choices. Money gives us confidence and desire to work harder so we can have better life.  You can decide where and how you want to live when you have a good income. When you do not have much money, your choice will be limited. However, everything comes with a price. Having much money doesn’t mean people wont run into problems. Most people fail to strike a  between earning and enjoying money so they work day and night. They believe they’ll be happier if they have lots of money. However, for most people, such time never comes and they die unhappy and dissatisfied

Could human beings live without money?
It’s true that money isn’t the most important thing in this world but it’s irreplaceable in our lives. If the world were a completely free place with no expenses and people could own anything they want without money, they would no longer go to work. There would be nothing as  motivation and people would work unproductively .Money stimulates people to overcome obstacles so they can enjoy their achievements to the fullest. Besides, people who have money have their own voice in society and it’s a strong encouragement for anyone

In your opinion, why do many people derive pleasure from spending money?
Spending money is definitely the most satisfying feeling ever. People can buy things they’ve long waited for to please themselves. Buying something new will make their day and stimulates them to work harder. The money spent isn’t necessarily on oneself but also loved ones. It makes us feel good so we will spend more money the next time.

Who do you think save more money, men or women?
Well, it’s hard to say. Men’s biggest risk is their  egos. They need to brag about their  possessions and how much money they’ve earned , so they end up spending more money. Women tend to save money and spend it when they really need it. However, there are still exceptions when women manage money worse than men. That’s why there is no strong proof to show men or women save more money

Which do you think is better for the economy of a country or area, people saving money or people spending money?
It’s such a tricky question. I guess for any economy, saving (1) is entwined with spending. When people buy things, they will contribute a (2)sum of money to the stores so they can pay salaries . The government also benefit from that as it’ll gain tax. If people save money, only the banks have advantage so they can invest or (3) set up new businesses. An ideal economy is when saving and spending balanced . It’s a rule for any economy in the world.

Do you think the government should let people know how it spends money?
Well, actually, I don’t really care about this issue. I think the government has its own reason to not  publicize everything. It can be  state secrets so the authority wants to  keep it private. However, If the government could go public with the amount of  money it spends, it would gain trust from the public and assure them that their money is invested properly.
