Governments should spend money on railways rather than roads. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

The debate over whether governments should prioritize spending on railways over roads involves various factors including economic efficiency, environmental impact, and urban development. I believe that, to a significant extent, governments should indeed allocate more resources to railways rather than roads for several compelling reasons.
Firstly, railways generally offer a more sustainable and environmentally friendly mode of transportation compared to roads. Trains are typically more energy-efficient and produce lower greenhouse gas emissions per passenger or ton of freight. As global concerns about climate change intensify, investing in rail infrastructure can contribute to reducing a country’s carbon footprint and supporting long-term environmental goals.
Secondly, railways can alleviate congestion on roads, which is increasingly problematic in urban areas. Heavy traffic leads to increased travel times, higher fuel consumption, and greater pollution. By enhancing rail networks, governments can provide a viable alternative for commuters and freight transport, thereby easing road congestion and improving overall transportation efficiency.
However, it is important to recognize that roads also play a crucial role in transportation.
