IELTS WRITING TASK 2
Not many young people living in rural areas have access to a university education. Some say that universities should make attendance easier for people from rural areas.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
SAMPLE ANSWER
One of the contributing factors of rural-to-urban migration is the presence of universities in cities. More often than not, the most well-known universities are located in the city. As a result, students from rural areas have to transfer to the city to attend them, which is very inconvenient. I believe that something must be done to make college education accessible to all.
First, all people have the right to a college education. Generally speaking, education acts as a passport toward a brighter future. It is common knowledge that people need a college education to find a good job these days. For this reason, college should also be available to people in rural areas as it will open the door to many opportunities for them. In addition, access to education will help lessen the gap between urban and rural regions.
Since cities are already overpopulated due to the tendency of building universities in cities, this is worsened after graduating, when students often stay in the city to work. Given this circumstance, building more universities in rural areas would prevent people from moving to the city in the first place. This would also be beneficial for rural communities. Graduates of rural institutions might stay in their towns, which would significantly improve rural living because graduates would contribute to their communities instead of moving away to the city.
In short, since urban and rural students have the right to a college education and that cities are already overpopulated, building rural colleges and universities answers many problems in the society. It is, thus, apparent that we must act on that to make college education accessible to all.
