SAMPLE ANSWER
Sports are a popular activity among children, and there are differing opinions about what children can learn from participating in them. Some people argue that sports teach children how to compete, while others believe that children learn teamwork. In this essay, I will discuss both views and give my opinion on how sports promote teamwork.
On the one hand, proponents of competition in sports argue that it teaches children valuable life skills. They believe that children need to learn how to be competitive to succeed in life, and that sports are an ideal platform for developing these skills. Children learn how to set goals, work hard, and push themselves to achieve their objectives. They also learn how to handle both success and failure and develop resilience and perseverance in the face of challenges.
On the other hand, supporters of teamwork in sports argue that it teaches children the importance of collaboration and cooperation. They believe that the ability to work together as a team is a crucial skill that children need to learn to succeed in life. Children learn how to communicate effectively, build relationships, and trust one another. They also learn how to share responsibilities and work towards a common goal, rather than focusing solely on their own individual achievements.
In my opinion, both competition and teamwork are essential skills that children need to learn. However, the emphasis should be on teamwork, as it fosters a sense of community and belonging that is important for children’s social and emotional development. While competition can be a motivating factor, it can also lead to negative behaviors such as aggression and hostility. Teamwork, on the other hand, promotes positive behaviors such as mutual respect, empathy, and inclusivity.
In conclusion, sports offer a valuable learning experience for children. While some argue that sports teach children how to compete, others believe that children learn teamwork. In my opinion, teamwork should be the primary focus, as it promotes positive social and emotional development. Nevertheless, both competition and teamwork are important skills that can contribute to children’s success in life.
