WRITING TASK 2 (AC + GT)
Examinations have always been disliked by everybody. What are the advantages and disadvantages of examination system? How it can be reformed?
SAMPLE ANSWER
There is no doubt that examinations have never been liked by everybody. Everybody hates sitting for a test. Examination system, however, has its advantages and disadvantages. But there are certain reforms that can remove the shortcomings in the examination system.
Examination system does enjoy certain advantages. A student works hard because he knows that he will be tested in his subjects. It also encourages a sense of competition among students. But there are disadvantages too. The biggest drawback is that it is not a real test of knowledge. Chance and luck play a great role in it. A hardworking student may get in examination the few that he has omitted to prepare. On the other hand, an indolent student may get in examination the only few questions that he has prepared. Thus a brilliant student ends up n getting poor marks, while a poor student may come out with flying colors.
However examination system can be reformed. Indeed, certain reforms have already been introduced in the system. To discourage blind cramming among students, objective type questions and multiple type questions have been introduced into question papers. Semester system is another step in this direction. Each semester carries a part of the whole syllabus. That reduces the burden of studies on the students, and they can prepare the limited syllabus very well. Periodic test tests, different sets of question papers, on- line tests are the other measures of reform in the examination system.
To conclude, examination system has no alternative. The best thing is only to reform the system which, as we have seen, is constantly been done.
