Academic Writing Task 1:-
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
The chart gives information about the amount of oil discovered worldwide from 1950 to 2020. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Sample Answer:- (7 BAND)
This bar chart shows the changes in the amount of oil discovered worldwide every 5 years from 1950 to 2005 and the predicted figures from 2010 to 2020.
In 1950, world oil discovery stood at 20 billion barrels a year, which grew dramatically over the next 15 years to reach a peak at approximately 56 billion barrels in 1965. However, from this year onwards, the growth of oil discovery was suddenly replaced by a sharply downward trend, with some ups and downs, to approximately 6 billion barrels a year in 2005, about 1/10 of its peak amount in 1965.
It is predicted that 7 billion barrels of oil will be discovered worldwide in the year 2010, and this figure is forecast to decline steadily to an all-time low of only 3 billion barrels in 2020.
In conclusion, this chart shows that world oil discovery peaked in the 1960s but has been declining for over 40 years, and this trend is expected to continue into the near future.

Dear Sir,
I am writing in connection with a bag that I left on one of your planes. Last week on Tuesday 4th May I came to London on flight ABC from New York. My seat number was R5. The plane arrived late at night and I was tired. As a result when I got home, I remembered that I had left my bag on the plane under the seat in front of me.
My bag is small and made of black leather with a zip opening the top. Inside the bag there is a pen, a paperback I was reading, some car keys and my diary.
Therefore would your lost property department please check and see if they have my bag and contact me as soon as possible to let me know whether they have found it or not?
You can contact me on my mobile telephone number which is: 01753 853 736.
Thanking you in advance for your help, I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
John Smith
Writing Task 2 (AC+GT):-
Some people believe that it is wrong to keep animals in zoos, while others think that zoos are both entertaining and ecologically important. Discuss both views.
Sample Answer:–
In this modern world, perspectives of how to keep animals are varied between people. Some people think about caging them in zoos or forests while others think it is illogical to limit animals’ movements. I am going to discuss these views according to environmental, personal and economic perspectives.
Keeping some animals in zoos will protect them against predators, bad weather, and food availability. Nevertheless, keeping animals free is more logical than isolating them because if we keep animals caged, they would not be able to have fresh air and chase other animals. Therefore, it is cruel keeping animals confined in small spaces. It is advisable to put our efforts into keeping our creatures in their natural habitats, in order to give them the opportunity to experience normal life.
Keeping animals is essential because some animals are in fact becoming extinct. Although keeping these animals is costly, the profits made by keeping these animals are substantial. Take Indian lions for example; a wide range of people travel to India to see these animals in circuses in India. However, some people think that governments should invest the money in improving the infrastructure of their nations instead. Building new electrical power station, for instance, is more important than spending thousands of pounds to preserve certain creatures from extinction.
Lastly, keeping animals is important for study and research whereas others think we have no right to use animals for entertainment and in labs.
To conclude, keeping animals in zoos might have many values but it is irrational to keep these animals away from their natural habitat. The reasons are that besides they are not vulnerable creatures, they have the right to survive independently because of having feelings and emotions as human.
IELTS Speaking Full Interview:-
PART – Intro Part
What is your full name?
My name is Guchina.
Do you work or study?
I graduated a few years ago and I’m now in full-time employment.
What is your job?
I’m currently an English teacher working for the British Council in Ho Chi Minh City.
Why did you choose that job?
I was previously a lawyer and found it to be really stressful and never had any free time, so after quitting that job I thought teaching might be the complete opposite of being a lawyer, you know not as stressful and more time off.
Are there lots of English teachers in Ho Chi Minh City?
Oh yes! There is a such a big demand for English as a second language here and it’s also quite a cheap place to live compared to many other big cities in Asia.
Do you enjoy your job?
Most of the time. It’s very rewarding to be able to help people every day and the students here are very hardworking and fun to teach, but you sometimes have lessons that do go so well and the money could always be better.
Do you get on well with your co-workers?
Yes, fine. I don’t really see work as part of my social life, so I don’t socialise with them, so I suppose I could be more friendly, but it’s just my nature to be a bit colder with colleagues. I think it’s more professional to be that way.
What was your first day at work like?
There were lots of teachers starting at the same time as me, 10 I think, so we all had a big induction day. The more senior teachers ran workshops with us to familiarize us with the different systems they had and then we went for a team dinner in the evening.
What responsibilities do you have at work?
All of the teachers main responsibility is to plan good lessons and then teach them to the best of our ability. On top of that we have several admin. tasks to carry out like mark homework, fill out attendance sheets and write reports.
Would you like to change your job in the future?
Yes, as I said before, I like working by myself, so I would like to be my own boss. I’m currently developing my own website, so if it’s successful I will leave teaching and work on it full time. This will also give me more time to work on other projects.
What is your typical day like at work?
I normally have 2 or 3 classes in the evening and I start the day by doing all the planning at home. This normally takes between an hour or two depending on the lessons. I then take the rest of the day to spend with my family, before going to work around 3 to print off my materials and then I teach all evening.
What would you change about your job?
As with most English teachers, we have to teach what is on the curriculum and this can mean that you are teaching some things that are quite boring or not very useful for your students, so I would like to have more freedom to teach outside the syllabus.
PART – 2 Cue Card
Describe a time when you saw an interesting animal.
You should say:
- what animal it was
- where you saw it
- what happened when you saw it *
- how you felt when you saw it
- and explain why you thought it was interesting.
Model Answer:
I found there was a bat nest in my balcony recently, and one night I happened to see they flew across the patio under our apartment and hover in the sky. I was shocked, because it was dark outside but they knew exactly where to go without mistakes. Moreover, they went out only at night.
I thought bats are interesting not because they can fly in the dark since I know they are nocturnal animals. I always think the ability which aids bats fly and prey capture is their unusual eye-sight, like another nocturnal animal, owls. But the truth is because of their echolocation. Bat echolocation is a perceptual system where ultrasonic sounds are emitted specifically to produce echoes. By comparing the outgoing pulse with the returning echoes the brain and auditory nervous system can produce detailed images of the bat’s surroundings. This allows bats to detect, localize and even classify their prey in complete darkness.
PART – 3 Discussion
What can you say about animals kept in the zoo?
Personally, I’m against keeping animals in the zoo because I believe they should be freed. I want them to enjoy their freedom to live and interact with other animals naturally, as it should be. I do not like the fact that some zoos are making money from those pathetic and caged animals. For me, they are taking the rights of those animals away to live on their own and worse some zoos are maltreating them for not feeding them right. Honestly, I do not pay a visit to any zoo because it just makes me feel upset.
Do you think it is safe for animals to live in the cities?
Absolutely not, cities are not their natural habitat. As we know major cities are filled with different types of pollution such noise, air, water, among others. Forcing animals to live in the concrete jungle is just putting their lives in danger. It is an indirect way of making them die gradually. Well anyway, I am talking about those animals that are kept in the zoo, I have nothing against those people who own pets like dogs or cats because those kinds of animals can naturally live with humans.
What kinds of challenges do pet owners have?
Well, I see several challenges that pet owners face such as when they go out of the country, they cannot take their pets with them unless they apply for a permit, however, doing such is daunting and costly. In addition, if pet owners are living in an apartment, more often than not, their next-door neighbor would complain about the noise of their pets.
Besides, if the pet owner is extremely busy with his work, and if his pet is a dog, he might not be able to walk the dog and without a doubt, that affects his dog’s physical and emotional health since dogs need to spend time outside every now and again.
