What do you like most about your hometown?
What like the most about my hometown, Ahmadabad is it has a blend of the old and the new. The river Sabarmati divides the city into two physically district regions: eastern and western. The eastern bank of the river houses the old city with the beautiful architecture and the entrance of the old city is surrounded by the gates. All which is a well developed city with a great connectivity to the communication, New City Lake, restaurants, theatres, shopping malls and others.
Is your hometown famous for anything?
My hometown has a very rich heritage culture. People out here are great food lovers; you will find some amazing food joints in the old city of Ahmadabad in the narrow lanes and some very good restaurants in the New City of Ahmadabad with the soothing ambience. Ahmadabad is famous for many festivals but the main is Navratri; ‘Nav’ means 9 and “Ratri’ is night. It’s the festival of nine nights where men and women are dressed in colorful traditional attires. The entire state gets energized with the thought of celebrating this festival.

What kind of food did you eat as a child?
My mother was always concerned about good health so most of the time we had home-cooked healthy food and once a week we were allowed to eat junk food. We had certain designed types of food. For example, on Tuesdays my mother ensured the food with less cholesterol and less oil. She was a health freak so she had disciplined our eating habit, too.
Do you think you will give your own children the same type of food? [Why/ why not?]
Yes, till the time they are with us at home, I shall certainly give them a balanced diet but once they move out for their further studies, they don’t really know what they would really eat but I am sure till then they would have learnt the art of good food habit.

Noise pollution has become an inevitable part of our life. Whether we like it or not, we have to tolerate it. We can’t escape it. Here, I’m going to talk about a situation when there was too much noise. A religious function, which we call Jagrata or jagran, was held last Sunday in my neighborhood.
In such functions people sing hymns and chants in praise of gods and goddesses the whole night long. The function started at 8 pm and went up to 5 pm. There is a law against using loudspeakers after 10 pm but people don’t abide by the law in the name of religion. They do not realize that some people might be suffering from excessive noise.
I was not able to sleep the whole night. I closed all windows of my house to reduce that sound, but it did not make any difference. Then I put earplugs in my ears but that too did not work. There might have been many other people who suffered like I did that night. I am not against any religious event, but I’m definitely against using loud speakers after 10 PM. Such laws should be implemented more strictly and I believe that the use of pressure horns also must be restricted. Noise pollution has a negative effect on our mental health as well as physical health.
IELTS Speaking Topic with Answer
It can lead to hearing impairment, Fatigue, Heart problems, Insomnia, Anxiety, Depression and so on. It can also reduce the work efficiency. One of my uncles has come from Canada and he tells me that in Canada people are not using horns unnecessarily and still the traffic runs very smoothly. I hope we all realize the menace of noise pollution and do our bit to reduce it from our lives.

Yes, I suppose so. Whether we like it or not, the noise producing things are increasing and so it is quite probable that cities will become noisier in the future.
Where can you hear a loud noise?
We can hear loud noise all around us. There is unnecessary honking of pressure horns from vehicles. Industries are making noise. People use loudspeakers for personal functions and neighbours are forced to bear the noise.
