Describe a time when you were sleepy but had to stay awake

You should say:

SAMPLE ANSWER

One memorable time when I felt extremely sleepy but had to stay awake was during my final school examinations last year. It happened the night before my science paper. I had stayed up almost the entire night revising important topics because I was nervous about forgetting formulas and definitions.

By around 3 a.m., my eyes were heavy and I could barely focus, but I knew I couldn’t go to bed because I still had two chapters left to revise. To stay awake, I washed my face with cold water several times, made a strong cup of coffee, and took short five-minute breaks to walk around my room.

Although I felt exhausted and sleepy, I managed to complete my revision and attended the exam the next morning. Surprisingly, I performed quite well, which made all the effort worthwhile. However, after the test, I went home and slept for almost ten hours straight!

This experience taught me the importance of time management and getting proper rest before important tasks.

Why do people feel sleepy during the day?

People often feel sleepy during the day because of poor sleep at night, long working hours, or unhealthy eating habits. Sometimes stress or lack of physical activity can also make people feel drowsy.

Not really. Working at night can disturb the natural sleep cycle, which might lead to health problems like fatigue or lack of concentration. However, with proper rest and a balanced routine, some people manage it quite well.

What can people do if they feel sleepy while working or studying?

They can take short breaks, drink water or coffee, and do light stretching. Listening to energetic music or having a quick walk can also help refresh the mind.
