What is your full name?
My full name is Surinder Kaur, but most people just call me Surinder. It’s short and easy to remember.

Does your name have any special meaning?
Yes, it does. My name “Surinder” comes from Punjabi origin and means “Lord of Gods”. It’s quite a common name in my culture, but I like the meaning behind it.

Who gave you your name?
My parents chose my name. They wanted something that would reflect our cultural background and also sound respectful and traditional.

Do you like your name?
Yes, I do. I think it represents my identity and roots. Even though it’s traditional, I find it quite elegant.

Would you like to change your name in the future?
No, I wouldn’t. My name has been a part of me since birth, and changing it would feel strange. It connects me with my family and heritage.

Yes, I absolutely love travelling. It gives me a chance to explore new cultures, try different cuisines, and meet people from various backgrounds. I find it refreshing and educational.

I try to travel at least once or twice a year. Usually during holidays or long weekends, I go on short trips to nearby cities or hill stations.

IELTS SPEAKING TEST

One of the most interesting traditional stories I’ve heard is “The Hare and the Tortoise.” It’s a famous moral tale that my grandmother used to tell me when I was a child.

The story is about a race between a fast hare and a slow tortoise. The hare was very confident that he would win easily, so he decided to take a nap in the middle of the race. Meanwhile, the tortoise kept moving slowly but consistently and finally won the race while the hare was still sleeping.

I find this story extremely interesting because it teaches a valuable lesson about determination and hard work. It shows that being overconfident can lead to failure, while patience and persistence can help you succeed even if you’re not the best or fastest.

Even today, I remember this story whenever I face challenges in life. It reminds me that steady progress is better than rushing and giving up.

Do you think traditional stories are important for children?
Yes, definitely. Traditional stories teach children moral values, cultural heritage, and the difference between right and wrong. They help in developing imagination and emotional understanding.

Do people still tell traditional stories in your country?
Yes, they do, especially grandparents and teachers. Although many children now prefer watching cartoons or movies, traditional stories are still shared during festivals and family gatherings.

What can we learn from traditional stories?
We can learn a lot — such as honesty, kindness, patience, and respect for others. Many of these stories carry deep life lessons that are still relevant in modern times.

How do you think traditional stories can be preserved?
They can be preserved by including them in school curriculums, publishing illustrated storybooks, or adapting them into animated videos so that younger generations remain interested.
