SAMPLE ANSWER
I’d like to talk about a time when I told my close friend the truth about his exam preparation. My friend Rahul was preparing for a university entrance exam, and he often believed he was studying effectively. However, I noticed that he was spending most of his time on social media and not practicing past papers seriously.
At first, I was hesitant to tell him because I didn’t want to hurt his feelings or sound critical. But since he is a good friend of mine, I felt that being honest would help him in the long run. One day, I told him directly that I thought he was wasting too much time online and that he needed to focus more if he wanted to pass the exam.
He was a little upset in the beginning, but later he thanked me. In fact, he reduced his social media use and started practicing more seriously. Eventually, he managed to perform quite well in the exam.

I felt really relieved because telling the truth not only helped him but also strengthened our friendship. It showed me that honesty, even when it’s uncomfortable, is sometimes the best way to support people you care about.
PART – 3
Do you think people should always be honest with friends?
I think honesty is important in any friendship, but it should be expressed in a polite and considerate way. Being brutally honest can hurt feelings, so a balance is necessary.
IELTS SPEAKING TEST
Is it easy to tell the truth all the time?
Not really. Sometimes telling the truth can create conflicts, so people avoid it. However, in the long term, being truthful usually leads to stronger and healthier relationships.
What do you think are the benefits of telling the truth?
The biggest benefit is trust. If you are honest, people know they can rely on you. It also prevents misunderstandings and makes relationships more genuine.
Are there situations when it is better not to tell the truth?
Yes, in some cases, especially when the truth may cause unnecessary harm or when it’s not your place to say it. For example, if revealing the truth will hurt someone deeply without helping them, it might be better to stay silent or choose words carefully.
