Are water sports popular in your country?

I’m not that sure, but from what I can see, the young people around me tend to enjoy water sports, such as scuba diving and surfing, to have fun. But for others, like the older generation, they are not that into it.

What water sports do you like?

I’m into all kinds of water sports. In terms of the extreme ones, I enjoy scuba diving and surfing because doing it makes me feel excited and I really get a good kick out of it. And in terms of something gentle, I prefer water yoga as it helps me to keep fit.

How often do you take a break?

I take breaks often while working or studying because it becomes difficult to concentrate for a long-time. If I were to focus on one task continuously I wouldn’t be able to perform well. Short breaks will allow me to refresh my mind to handle my tasks.

What do you usually do during a break?

When I take a break, I choose to listen to music to relax myself. I also close my eyes and give them a short rest before continuing to work. If it is a relatively long break, I may choose to watch a short TV episode or eat something in order to get more energy when I return to work.

Do you like spending time by yourself?

Yes, I enjoy spending time by myself. In other words, I don’t mind being alone. Nowadays it’s been more difficult to have real private time, I mean the time just for myself. Therefore, sometimes I like to be alone to enjoy that private time which makes me think of something or just relax.

What did you do last time you were by yourself?

I read a book and then slept. The bedtime completely belongs to me, and I choose to read books at that time. I remember I read a detective book last night, and the plot was pretty interesting and a little scary. I like that book and I wonder what’ll happen next, so I will read it tonight as well.

What do you usually do when you spend time with yourself?

One of my hobbies is baking, and usually, I do it when I’m alone. Every time I bake, I prefer to do it without any disturbance. Focusing on it makes me feel relaxed and peaceful. It is a way for me to release some pressure in my daily life. I also like to read books that I’m interested in.

One personal project I started but couldn’t finish was learning to play the guitar. I began this hobby about two years ago during the COVID-19 lockdown when I had a lot of free time at home. Music had always fascinated me, and I admired how guitarists could express so much emotion through their playing. I thought it would be a great way to relax and maybe even play a few songs for my friends and family.

I started watching online tutorials and even bought a beginner’s guitar course. At first, I was quite motivated and practiced daily for a couple of weeks. However, once the lockdown ended and work resumed at full pace, my schedule became hectic. I struggled to find consistent time to practice, and gradually, my interest faded due to a lack of progress.

Now, I feel a little disappointed for not continuing. It still sits in the corner of my room, and every time I see it, I think about picking it up again. I do hope to return to it someday when my schedule becomes more manageable.

Why do people start hobbies but fail to complete them?

Many people begin hobbies out of curiosity or sudden interest, but often fail to complete them due to lack of time, motivation, or realistic expectations. Life commitments like work, studies, or family responsibilities can interfere. Sometimes, people underestimate the effort or time needed to learn a new skill and lose interest when they don’t see quick results.

Do you think it’s important to finish what you start? Why or why not?

Yes, finishing what you start is important because it builds discipline, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment. However, I believe it’s equally important to recognize when something is no longer beneficial or enjoyable. If a person is not passionate about a project or it’s affecting their mental health, it might be better to stop and redirect their energy elsewhere.

What kind of personal projects do people usually start these days?

Nowadays, people often start personal development projects like learning a new language, taking online courses, or engaging in creative hobbies like painting, photography, or blogging. Fitness goals, like weight loss or muscle building, are also very common. Many of these are influenced by social media trends or a desire for self-improvement.

Are hobbies important in people’s lives? Why?

Absolutely. Hobbies provide relaxation, mental stimulation, and a break from daily routines. They help people manage stress, express creativity, and even discover hidden talents. Hobbies also contribute to personal growth and social interaction, especially when shared in communities or groups.
