IELTS Speaking Test

Do you enjoy public holidays?

Yes, I do. Public holidays give me a chance to relax and spend time with my family, especially when everyone is off work or school.

What do people in your country usually do on public holidays?

In India, people often visit relatives, go shopping, or take short trips. During festivals like Diwali, public holidays are full of cultural and religious activities.

IELTS Speaking Test

Do you think public holidays are important?

Definitely. They help people recharge mentally and emotionally, and they also preserve cultural and national traditions.

What’s your favourite public holiday and why?

My favourite is Vaisakhi because it’s both a harvest festival and has spiritual significance in Punjab. The atmosphere is festive and there are processions and celebrations everywhere.

Are you usually on time for appointments?

Yes, I try to be punctual. I believe being on time shows respect for other people’s time.

How do you feel when someone is late?

If it happens occasionally, I don’t mind. But if someone is consistently late, it can be frustrating and feel a bit disrespectful.

IELTS Speaking Test

Have you ever been late for something important?

Yes, once I was late for a job interview because of unexpected traffic. I called ahead to explain, but it still made me very anxious.

Why do some people find it difficult to be punctual?

I think it’s often due to poor planning or underestimating how long tasks or travel will take. Some people also just have a more relaxed attitude toward time.

IELTS Speaking Test

Do you like learning new things?

Absolutely. I find it exciting and rewarding, especially when I learn something that I can use in real life or at work.

What’s something new you’ve learned recently?

Recently, I started learning basic photo editing. It’s really useful for my job in digital marketing and also a fun skill.

Do you prefer learning alone or with others?

It depends on the topic. I like learning alone when I need focus, but for practical skills, learning in a group can be more fun and interactive.

IELTS Speaking Test

Is it important to keep learning even after finishing school or university?

Yes, lifelong learning is essential. The world keeps changing, especially in areas like technology, so staying updated helps both personally and professionally.

One piece of advice that I received unexpectedly but turned out to be incredibly helpful came from one of my college professors. It happened during a casual conversation after class when we were discussing career plans.

He said to me, “Don’t wait to feel 100% ready before you start something—just begin and learn as you go.” At the time, we weren’t talking about anything specific, so I didn’t expect him to offer any deep life lesson. That’s what made the advice so unexpected—it came out of nowhere and wasn’t related to what we were formally discussing.

This advice really struck a chord with me because I’ve always been someone who overthinks and delays decisions, especially when I feel unsure. Later, when I was hesitant about applying for a digital marketing internship, I remembered his words. I took a chance, applied, and got selected.

Since then, I’ve followed this mindset, and it has helped me grow both personally and professionally.

IELTS Speaking Test

Do you think people usually take advice seriously?

Not always. It often depends on who is giving the advice and the timing. If someone trusts the person offering the advice or if they are going through a challenging situation, they might be more open to listening. However, some people tend to ignore advice because they feel they already know what’s best for them or they’re not ready to change.

Why do some people resist taking advice?

There are several reasons. Some people are naturally independent and prefer making their own choices, even if it leads to mistakes. Others may feel that accepting advice makes them seem weak or dependent. Ego also plays a role—if advice challenges someone’s opinion or lifestyle, they might reject it, even if it’s useful.

IELTS Speaking Test

What kind of people do you think give the best advice?

I believe people who have life experience and empathy tend to give the best advice. For example, mentors, teachers, or even parents often provide valuable guidance because they’ve gone through similar challenges. Also, people who are good listeners and don’t judge can offer more thoughtful and balanced advice.

Do you think advice from friends is better than advice from experts?

That depends on the situation. Friends might understand your personality and emotions better, so their advice may be more personal and emotionally supportive. However, for technical or career-related matters, advice from experts is usually more reliable because it’s based on knowledge and experience in that particular field.

IELTS Speaking Test

Is it better to learn from advice or from personal experience?

Ideally, a combination of both is best. Advice can help us avoid common mistakes and save time, but personal experience often teaches lessons more deeply because we feel the consequences ourselves. For example, someone might advise you not to procrastinate, but until you actually face the stress of last-minute work, you may not take it seriously.

Can children also give useful advice?

Surprisingly, yes. While children lack experience, they sometimes offer honest and straightforward opinions that adults may overlook. Their innocence allows them to see things without overthinking. Of course, their advice may not always be practical, but it can still offer a refreshing perspective.
