Do you like art?

Yeah, I’m really into art coz it helps to release my stress. It’s a good way to get it out of my system from singing or painting. And art makes me be able to perceive the world better, like to discover beauty in life, and to improve my aesthetic level.

Do you like visiting art galleries?

Yeah, love to go to art galleries on my days off coz it’s cool to take snapshots there and put them on my moments. More importantly, I have the chance to know different genres, and listen to the stories told by the guides.

Do you want to be an artist?

Well my answer is no because most of the artists are in limbo. I mean, it’s very hard for a person to make a name for him or herself in the industry. I know it sounds utilitarian, but that’s the truth. And if that’s the case, it’s impossible for an artist to support him or herself.

Do you like modern art or traditional art?

Honestly, I’m an outsider to art, but I should say, I just love both because each has its strong points. To my understanding, traditional art provides a basis for aesthetic level, showing people the details of the artwork. And modern art is sort of like, breaking the mould and reflecting the artists’ thoughts.

Do you like painting/ drawing? Why?

Yes, I do. I used to be fancy of drawing when I was in primary school. I just enjoyed copying the figure in my drawing book and making use of any colour as I like. I felt proud of being praised by my relatives when they saw my drawing posted on the wall of my house.

Do you want to learn more about art?

No. I simply take it as some entertainment activities to kill time like sculpturing or paper cutting, not something that I would like to pay special attention or invest, or put alot of efforts. As I mentioned, handicrafts making is too time consuming and challenging to be adept. So, as opposed to making such stuff, I would rather spend some time listening to music and learn how to sing.

Do you think children should learn drawing?

It depends. If a child has an interest in drawing, it’s good for them to do. Parents should encourage their children to do what they like. However, it’s useless to push every child to learn drawing.

A historical place in India that I would love to visit is Hampi, located in the southern state of Karnataka. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was once the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, which was one of the richest and most powerful kingdoms in Indian history during the 14th to 16th centuries.

Hampi is renowned for its breathtaking ruins, ancient temples, and giant stone structures, all set against a surreal landscape of boulders and riverbanks. The Virupaksha Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is one of the main attractions and is still active as a place of worship. There are also intricately carved stone chariots, musical pillars, royal enclosures, and an extensive market area that tells stories of a flourishing civilization.

What fascinates me most about Hampi is how advanced its architecture and city planning were for its time. Despite being destroyed during the Mughal invasion in the 16th century, much of its grandeur remains visible. I’ve seen photos and documentaries, but I feel that visiting the place in person would be a completely different and enriching experience.

I want to visit Hampi because I love history and heritage, and this city represents a glorious period in Indian culture that is often overlooked. Exploring its ruins would give me a deeper appreciation of India’s rich and diverse past.

Why do people visit historical places?

People visit historical places for a variety of reasons. For many, it’s a way to connect with the past and understand how their culture and society have evolved. It offers a tangible experience of history—something that textbooks can’t fully provide. In addition, historical sites often have architectural beauty and artistic significance that attract tourists, historians, and even photographers. For some, especially in countries like India, visiting these places is also spiritual, as many historical sites are religious as well.

What benefits do students gain from visiting cultural or historical sites?

Students gain immense educational value from such visits. It helps them move beyond theoretical knowledge and understand history in a real-world context. They can visualize what they study in class, which enhances retention and curiosity. These visits also promote critical thinking, as students begin to question how and why things were done in the past. Additionally, learning about different cultures fosters empathy, tolerance, and appreciation for diversity, which are essential in a globalized world.

Do you think governments should invest more in preserving historical monuments? Why or why not?

Yes, I strongly believe that governments should allocate more resources to preserve historical monuments. These sites are national treasures that represent the identity, culture, and legacy of a nation. Once lost, they cannot be replaced. Preservation not only maintains cultural pride but also supports tourism, which is a significant revenue source for many countries. Moreover, investing in these monuments creates jobs in conservation, tourism, and education. Neglecting them would lead to cultural erosion and loss of valuable heritage.

What role can individuals and communities play in preserving heritage sites?

Individuals and communities can play a crucial role. Local communities, in particular, often serve as caretakers of these sites. They can help in maintaining cleanliness, reporting damage or vandalism, and educating visitors about the significance of the site. Schools and community groups can also organize awareness campaigns. Additionally, responsible tourism—such as avoiding littering, respecting site rules, and not touching fragile structures—goes a long way. When people take ownership of their heritage, it becomes easier to preserve.

Do modern buildings have the same cultural value as historical ones?

Modern buildings can reflect current values and technological advancements, but they usually lack the depth of cultural significance that historical structures hold. Historical buildings are time capsules; they carry stories, craftsmanship, and traditions that represent specific eras. That said, some modern structures—like national museums, parliament buildings, or memorials—can become culturally significant over time if they symbolize something meaningful to society.
