Are water sports popular in your country?
I’m not that sure, but from what I can see, the young people around me tend to enjoy water sports, such as scuba diving and surfing, to have fun. But for others, like the older generation, they are not that into it.
What water sports do you like?
I’m into all kinds of water sports. In terms of the extreme ones, I enjoy scuba diving and surfing because doing it makes me feel excited and I really get a good kick out of it. And in terms of something gentle, I prefer water yoga as it helps me to keep fit.

How often do you take a break?
I take breaks often while working or studying because it becomes difficult to concentrate for a long-time. If I were to focus on one task continuously I wouldn’t be able to perform well. Short breaks will allow me to refresh my mind to handle my tasks.
What do you usually do during a break?
When I take a break, I choose to listen to music to relax myself. I also close my eyes and give them a short rest before continuing to work. If it is a relatively long break, I may choose to watch a short TV episode or eat something in order to get more energy when I return to work.

Do you like spending time by yourself?
Yes, I enjoy spending time by myself. In other words, I don’t mind being alone. Nowadays it’s been more difficult to have real private time, I mean the time just for myself. Therefore, sometimes I like to be alone to enjoy that private time which makes me think of something or just relax.
What did you do last time you were by yourself?
I read a book and then slept. The bedtime completely belongs to me, and I choose to read books at that time. I remember I read a detective book last night, and the plot was pretty interesting and a little scary. I like that book and I wonder what’ll happen next, so I will read it tonight as well.

SAMPLE ANSWER
One of my favourite free time activities is reading books, especially fiction novels. I’ve been passionate about reading since I was around 10 years old, when my school librarian introduced me to children’s literature. The first book I read was Charlotte’s Web, and I was completely hooked. Since then, reading has become a regular part of my life.
I try to read every day, even if it’s just for 20–30 minutes before bed. On weekends, when I have more free time, I can easily spend a few hours with a good book. It’s a habit that helps me unwind and disconnect from the stresses of daily life.

I usually prefer reading alone, as it’s a quiet and personal activity. However, I do enjoy discussing books with friends or in book clubs after I finish them, because sharing perspectives adds depth to the experience.
What I love most about reading is that it allows me to explore different worlds, cultures, and emotions. It improves my imagination and vocabulary, and sometimes even changes the way I see life. It’s both entertaining and enriching, which is why I consider it the best way to spend my free time.
PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS
Do you think people have enough free time nowadays?
Honestly, I don’t think most people have enough free time these days. With the fast pace of life, long working hours, and increasing responsibilities, it’s becoming harder for people to carve out time for themselves. Even when they technically have free time, many are too mentally exhausted to use it meaningfully. Social media and smartphones also consume a big chunk of that time without people even realizing it. So, while we might have pockets of free time, we don’t always make the best use of it.

How has the way people spend their free time changed over the years?
The way people spend their leisure time has evolved significantly over the last few decades. In the past, people engaged more in physical and social activities — playing outdoor games, meeting friends in person, or pursuing hands-on hobbies like painting or gardening. Nowadays, with the rise of technology, many prefer to spend their free time on digital devices, whether that’s binge-watching TV shows, playing video games, or scrolling through social media. While this is more convenient, it sometimes leads to a more passive lifestyle, which can negatively affect health and social interaction.
Is it important to have hobbies in your life? Why or why not?
Absolutely, I believe hobbies are essential for a balanced and fulfilling life. They give people an outlet to express themselves, unwind from stress, and develop skills outside of work or school. For example, someone who enjoys painting might improve their creativity and focus. Hobbies also help with mental health — they provide a sense of accomplishment and joy, which is vital for emotional well-being. Without hobbies, life can become monotonous and purely task-oriented.

Do children today have the same kinds of hobbies as their parents did?
In some ways, yes, but there are also noticeable differences. Children today are growing up in a digital world, so their hobbies often include things like playing mobile games, watching YouTube videos, or creating content online. In contrast, their parents likely spent more time outdoors — riding bicycles, playing sports, or engaging in traditional games. However, some timeless hobbies like drawing, reading, and music still appeal to both generations. That said, screen time has definitely replaced a lot of the physical and creative activities that were more common in the past.
