IELTS Speaking Test
Do you like traveling?
Not really, to be honest. I’m a creature of habit (someone who doesn’t like changes to routine), so I’m usually not keen to change my daily routine. When I do mix it up, it often makes me feel anxious and disoriented (not a clear mind). Furthermore, I have a fear or airplanes and get carsick, so traveling just isn’t for me.
Do you often travel by air?
Not at all! I try to avoid it at all costs (very seriously). If I must travel, I will take some motion sickness (getting sick from any kind of transportation) medicine and go by car or train. I was once on an airplane on my honeymoon that came very near to crashing, so my phobia (strong fear) stems from (comes from. Stem is the part where the flower grows) this.

How long was the longest trip you took?
I once had to go on business to the Philippines. It was a 24 hour flight! It was a nightmare (we saw this when something is very terrible). On top of this, I was seated next to a child who was relentlessly (not stopping) crying during the entire journey.
Which country would you like to travel to in the future?
I’m dying to (I really want to) go to Egypt. I’ve always dreamt of going there since I was a child, actually. I’m really fascinated by their ancient culture. I would be in awe of (amazed by) the Grand Pyramids I’m sure. Unfortunately, since I despise (hate) flying, I don’t think I’ll ever get there.
Would you like to travel to space?
Perhaps! I’m not sure how it feels to be in a rocket. I think it would be incredible to see a completely foreign galaxy (another world). I’m curious if other life forms (aliens) exist, so I would definitely go along on this journey to find out for myself. I also wonder if the moon is made out of cheese!

What is your favorite festival?
Hmm, that’s a tough question because I’m definitely a holiday person (a person who likes holidays), but I would have to say New Year’s Eve. I’m always keen (want) for change and new beginnings, so I love setting new goals at the start of each New Year, not to mention I really enjoy the parties. Second to this would be Valentine’s Day, since I’m a hopeless romantic (a very romantic person).

SAMPLE ANSWER
One product I bought but ended up returning was a smartwatch. I purchased it about three months ago from an online store during a discount sale. The watch had many features, including fitness tracking, heart rate monitoring, and smartphone notifications, which I thought would be useful in my daily life.
However, after using it for a few days, I realized that it did not meet my expectations. First, the battery life was much shorter than advertised. Instead of lasting for two days, it barely lasted a day, which was very inconvenient. Secondly, the step counter and heart rate monitor seemed inaccurate, as the readings fluctuated a lot. Lastly, I found the watch uncomfortable to wear for long hours, as the strap irritated my skin.
Since the product was not functioning as promised, I decided to return it within the return policy period. Fortunately, the return process was smooth, and I received a full refund.
I felt disappointed because I had been excited about using the smartwatch, but it did not work as expected. However, I was also relieved that I could return it and get my money back. Next time, I will research more carefully before making such a purchase.

What kind of products do people often return?
People frequently return products like electronics, clothing, shoes, home appliances, and beauty products. Electronics, such as smartphones or laptops, may have technical defects or performance issues. Clothing and shoes are often returned due to size mismatches or different colors than expected. Home appliances like refrigerators or washing machines might not fit properly in the available space. Beauty products, especially skincare and makeup, are sometimes returned if they cause allergic reactions or do not match the buyer’s skin tone.
Additionally, expensive products are also returned when people have buyer’s remorse, meaning they regret the purchase after realizing it was unnecessary or too costly.
Is it easy to return products in your country?
It depends on the store and the type of product. Many online retailers have a customer-friendly return policy, allowing customers to return items within 7 to 30 days, sometimes with free return shipping. Some e-commerce platforms even offer a “no questions asked” return policy, making it very easy for buyers to get refunds or replacements.
However, in physical stores, the return process can be stricter. Some shops allow returns only if the product is defective or unused with the original packaging and receipt. Certain products, like underwear, customized items, or perishable goods, usually cannot be returned due to hygiene or resale issues.

Overall, online shopping has made returns easier, but the process varies based on store policies and product categories.
Do you think online shopping leads to more product returns?
Yes, online shopping significantly increases product returns because customers cannot physically inspect the items before purchasing. There are several reasons for this:
– Size and Fit Issues: Clothing, shoes, and accessories might not fit as expected, leading to returns.
– Misleading Product Images: Sometimes, online photos look much better than the actual product. Customers feel disappointed when they receive something different.
– Defective or Damaged Items: During shipping, fragile products like electronics or glassware may get damaged.
– Wrong Items Sent: Mistakes in packaging and delivery also lead to returns.
Additionally, some people abuse return policies, ordering multiple sizes or colors of a product and returning the ones they don’t like. This trend, known as “bracketing,” is common in fashion shopping.
