Would you enjoy living in the countryside?

Definitely yes! Sometimes I wish my grandparents hadn’t migrated to Mumbai. I would have loved to grow up in our village on the Konkan coast, close to the sea, listening to the sound of the waves instead of the constant cacophony of horns!

Do you prefer living in a city or the countryside? Why?

This is not an easy question. People often romanticize life in the high mountains but it is tough. Food is very expensive and locals have to walk through dangerous terrain on a daily basis. Winters are biting cold and clear running water is hard to find. So I’ll admit that city life is easier.

Would you like to live in the countryside in the future?

Not anytime soon! I can see myself living in the countryside when I am retired and walk a slower pace of life. At the moment, the countryside is great for a relaxing day out or to go and paint the landscape but I feel more at home in the city.

Have you ever spent time in the countryside?

I go to the countryside in the North of Spain every summer as Madrid can become unbearably hot. My family have a chalet there so we all go and stay and laze about in the garden and swim in the pool. We take long walks in the mountains in the mornings and have long lunches in the afternoon followed by a nap.

Is farming important in your country?

It is very common for people to take on farming duties in rural areas. It is actually one of the main industries in my country, with over fifty percent of the population living off of it.

How often do you visit farms?

I live in a metropolitan city, so I am quite far from any farming areas, but every few months I will go visit one for a change of pace.

What can we do to support farmers?

An idea could be to purchase products from local businesses, rather than buying mass-produced merchandise from large factories. I personally enjoy going to markets where people sell their own food, like fresh fruit and vegetables, and sometimes meat, too.

I’d like to talk about my cousin, Maya. She’s the youngest child of my aunt, and I’ve known her since she was born. In fact, I’ve always been around her as we’re close in age and have spent a lot of time together during family gatherings and holidays. She’s now 8 years old, but I can remember when she was just a little baby, and I used to help my aunt take care of her.

Maya is full of energy and has a really curious nature. She always asks a lot of questions about the world around her. She’s also quite talented in drawing and loves to create pictures of animals and landscapes, which are always so colorful and imaginative.

In terms of how I know her, we are family, so I see her regularly, especially during weekends and special occasions. I’m like an older sibling to her, and she often looks to me for guidance or just to play games with. It’s been so lovely to watch her grow up.

How do you think children can benefit from having older family members around?

I believe children can gain a lot from older family members. They provide a sense of security and emotional support, and can serve as role models. Older relatives, like parents or siblings, often have more experience in handling situations, so they can offer valuable advice. In my case, I try to be a positive influence on Maya by teaching her new things, like how to solve puzzles or share with others.

Do you think it’s important for children to spend time with other children?

Yes, definitely. Spending time with other children is important for their social development. It allows them to learn how to interact with others, share, and resolve conflicts. For example, Maya loves playing with her friends at school, and I can see how it helps her become more confident and develop her communication skills.

IELTS Speaking Test

What do you think is the best way to encourage children to develop their skills and interests?

The best way to encourage children is by supporting their interests and providing them with opportunities to explore those passions. For example, if a child loves painting or playing a musical instrument, parents can invest in materials or classes. I always encourage Maya to draw or play games that let her use her imagination, and I praise her creativity when she comes up with something new. This boosts her confidence and keeps her motivated.
