Do you like to wear hats?
Although hats help shield your hair and face from direct sunlight, to be honest I don’t really like wearing hats daily. My hair is always a mess after I take them off. Instead of wearing hats, I think I prefer bringing an umbrella with me.
What kinds of hats do you have?/ Which hat do you like?
As I’ve mentioned, wearing hats is definitely not my daily style, so generally I don’t have any hats at home. There is the only type of hat I’m particularly fond of, which is baseball caps. This kind of hat can give me a sporty and strong look, you know.
Where do you like to buy hats?
Since there isn’t a good selection of hats at my local apparel store, I have to buy hats from specialty headware stores, or even online.
IELTS Speaking Test
Is wearing hats popular in your country?
It’s not much sought after in my country where the motorbike is the most common means of transportation, and it is a must to wear a helmet whenever you ride a motorbike for safety. I think you can imagine how much uncomfortable it is to wear a hat under the helmet. Thus in most of the case, hats are for pedestrians and fashionista.
Do you have any hobbies?
Well, everyone has their own leisure pursuits, and mine is reading. The book I’m reading at the moment is The Godfather by renowned author Mario Puzo. It’s a classic, really, and I’d recommend it.
Is it important to have a hobby?
Definitely! I mean nowadays life is getting more and more hectic, so people are always under an enormous amount of stress. That’s why it’s helpful to get into some recreational activities to be able to unwind and just forget about life for a minute, you know?

SAMPLE ANSWER
I remember a time when I had to take medicine for a severe cold and flu. It was about a year ago, during the winter months when the weather was particularly chilly. I started feeling unwell, with a sore throat, body aches, and a runny nose. The symptoms worsened over a few days, and I was also feeling extremely fatigued, which made it difficult to go about my daily activities.

After a couple of days of enduring the symptoms, I decided to visit my doctor. The doctor diagnosed me with a common viral infection and recommended a course of medication, including pain relievers, decongestants, and some throat lozenges. He also suggested I drink plenty of fluids and get as much rest as possible.
I followed the doctor’s advice and took the prescribed medication for about five days. I also made sure to stay in bed, drinking hot teas, and taking vitamins to help boost my immune system. Thankfully, after completing the course of medicine and resting, I began to feel much better. My symptoms started to subside, and within a week, I had fully recovered.
It was quite an unpleasant experience, but it taught me the importance of seeking medical help early and getting proper rest when I’m unwell.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS
Do you think it’s better to take medicine when you’re sick, or just wait and let your body heal on its own?
I believe it depends on the severity of the illness. For minor illnesses, like a mild cold, sometimes it’s okay to let your body recover naturally by resting and staying hydrated. However, for more serious symptoms, such as a fever or persistent pain, it’s better to take medicine under the guidance of a doctor. Medicine can help manage the symptoms and speed up recovery, especially if the illness is affecting your daily life.
Are there any side effects to taking medicine for a cold or flu?
Yes, sometimes taking medicine for a cold or flu can have side effects. For example, certain decongestants can cause dizziness or make it harder to sleep. Pain relievers, like ibuprofen, can sometimes irritate the stomach if taken for an extended period. That’s why it’s important to follow the doctor’s instructions carefully and avoid self-medication. In my case, I didn’t experience any major side effects, but I made sure to stay within the recommended dosage.

Do you think people rely too much on medicine these days?
I think there’s a tendency for people to rely on medicine too quickly, sometimes without exploring natural remedies or lifestyle changes that might help. Modern medicine is amazing, and it certainly has its place, especially for serious conditions. But for minor ailments, people could often benefit from rest, hydration, and healthy habits first before turning to medication. It’s important to find a balance and not rely solely on pills as a quick fix.
How can we avoid getting sick, especially during the colder months?
There are several ways to avoid getting sick, especially during the colder months. Maintaining a healthy immune system by eating nutritious foods, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep is crucial. Also, it’s important to wash your hands frequently, avoid close contact with sick people, and stay warm during cold weather. In addition, drinking enough water and staying hydrated helps the body stay strong and better fight off infections.
