IELTS Speaking Test
What type of noises do you often hear?
Well, it depends on where I am and what I’m doing at the moment. If I’m at home, I might hear the sound of my pets running around, the TV or music playing, or just the normal sounds of everyday life. If I’m out and about, I might hear the sound of traffic, people talking, or maybe some construction going on. There’s just a lot of different sounds that I encounter on a daily basis.
Are there any sounds you like?
Yeah, there are definitely some sounds that I really enjoy. I love the sound of nature, like birds chirping or the rustling of leaves in the wind. I also really enjoy listening to music and find that it can really lift my mood and set the tone for my day. There are just so many great sounds out there that bring me joy and happiness.

What kind of noise do you dislike most?
Hmm, that’s a tough one. I guess if I had to pick the noise that I dislike the most, it would probably be loud, jarring noises. Things like loud car alarms or construction noise can be really annoying and disruptive, and I just find them really grating on my nerves.
Is your area becoming noisier?
I’m not really sure, to be honest. I think it kind of depends on where I am and what I’m doing. Some areas are definitely noisier than others, but overall I don’t think the noise level in my area has changed all that much. There are just always going to be some noise and activity going on, no matter where you are.

What kinds of teachers do you like best?
The best teachers are those that understand that everyone has a different way of learning. They understand how to guide a student towards the answers and one key trait is patience. I think another great characteristic of a good teach is a sense of humour.
Have you ever had bad teachers before?
Yes, I definitely have had bad teachers. Some of the worst I can remember have been university lecturers. For some reason, some of the professors who have excellent knowledge of their respective subject are actually terrible teachers. I guess that teacher training is not a prerequisite.
Who was your favourite teacher when you were young?
I would have to say it was a young student teacher. Her name was Miss Downing and her family owned the local bakery called Downings. She organised a school outing for all of us to go and see the bakery. After a tour of the bakery, we were all given our choice of cakes. I chose my favourite chocolate cake.

Would you like to be a teacher in the future?
No, I have no ambition to be a school teacher. I tried it for a while and after my first practical I decided it was not for me. There is no discipline in the classroom and classroom management is unbelievably hard.

SAMPLE ANSWER
The person who did something kind for me was my close friend, Sarah. We’ve known each other for several years, and we share a strong bond built on trust and mutual respect. She has always been supportive, and this particular act of kindness really stood out to me.
This happened about two years ago when I was going through a particularly challenging time in my life. I had recently moved to a new city for work, and I was feeling quite isolated and overwhelmed by the changes. It was during the winter holiday season, around December, when I received this gesture of kindness from Sarah.
One day, when I was feeling particularly down and lonely, Sarah showed up at my apartment unannounced. She had baked a batch of my favorite cookies and brought them along with a homemade hot chocolate mix. She said she knew I was missing my family and home during the holidays, so she wanted to bring a little warmth and comfort to me. We spent the afternoon chatting, eating cookies, and watching a Christmas movie together. She also surprised me with a small care package filled with other little treats and items to help me feel more at home.

I felt incredibly touched by Sarah’s gesture. It was such a simple but thoughtful thing to do, and it meant the world to me. At a time when I was feeling lonely and uncertain, her kindness made me feel cared for and reminded me that I wasn’t alone. It also made me reflect on the importance of friends and how small acts of kindness can have a huge impact on someone’s mental and emotional well-being. I truly appreciated the effort she made, and it strengthened our friendship even more. It’s something I’ll always remember, and it’s a reminder of the power of kindness.
PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS
What kinds of things do people do for others to show kindness?
There are many ways people can show kindness, depending on the situation. For example, people might offer emotional support by listening and comforting someone who’s going through a tough time. Others might perform practical tasks, such as helping with errands or giving a ride. Some might surprise someone with a thoughtful gift or simply spend time with them when they feel lonely. Acts of kindness can be as simple as offering a compliment or lending a hand with something difficult.

Do you think people are kinder today than they used to be?
I think kindness has always been a fundamental part of human interaction, but in some ways, I do believe people are more conscious of it today. Social media and online platforms have made it easier for people to share positive messages, raise awareness about causes, and support others. However, the fast-paced nature of modern life can sometimes make people less connected, so it’s important to consciously practice kindness in our daily lives, even in small ways.
Why do you think some people are not kind to others?
There could be many reasons why some people are not kind to others. Sometimes, people may act out of fear, insecurity, or a lack of empathy. In some cases, personal struggles or past experiences can lead people to be more guarded or defensive, making it harder for them to express kindness. Also, people who are under stress or who have negative outlooks on life may find it more difficult to show kindness, as they may be preoccupied with their own problems.
